Good point. I should have said, that would be some kind of excuse given by dealers for not touching modified trucks.

It's almost idiot proof because the AT software wont load onto manuals. For comparison they do objectively and subjectively waaaaaay riskier repairs and fixes without even thinking twice about it. Now if the software upgrade was $300 they would probably tell you come in first thing tomorrow and we should uploaded it twice just to make sure it sticks :jerkoff:

    Cool stuff
I just did the Clutch Assembly TSB. I have a 2019 so no software was involved. The pedal assembly feels much better with less side to side play. The feel is smoother with press and depress but that may be due to the brand new grease. Also the grease my dealership used is like a dark brown instead of the white grease. time will tell.

I did the update for my 2016 TRD OR MT last night and it made a very noticeable difference. I do not feel the power surge anymore, the clutch feels more connected to the pedal...all around smoother shifting and feel. I haven't driven it much since the ECU update, but it feels almost like a different truck. A friend of mine works at Lexus and was able to do the update after work hours. He did check to see if it would be covered under warranty and said it was. He informed me dealerships should do the update since it is under warranty, but some can be a pain in the ass about it. I bypassed the hassle of the dealership. Highly recommend the update.

Is your friend's dealership willing to do it for other Tacos? If so, please post them up!

There was a map linked around here somewhere where folks could drop pins for MT friendly dealers.

It was done as a favour. I’m pretty positive you would be referred to a Toyota dealership if you contacted them.

I've been following this thread for a long time... I took my 2018 in for the clutch pedal replacement which they did. I was finally able to convince them to attempt the ECM reflash but they said the Techstream would not allow them to do it because my 'ID' was not covered under the TSB's. Does anyone in the DFW area have experience with a dealer willing to do the update on a manual? Dealer in Hurst basically said they are afraid to do it because it might 'jack up a lot of things.' Thanks all.

They need to trust the software. :D

If I were you, I'd reach out to folks with a Tactrix and TechStream in your local forums.

EDIT: after a lot of back and forth they finally agreed to do the update. Apparently the TSB 58-18 was revised at some point and no longer included the calibration ID 8966304A7000 which is what I have so the tech was concerned Toyota wouldn't honor the work. They eventually installed the update to 7100 and it is definitely an improvement. Just wanted to share my experience in case its helpful for others - I get the impression my local dealer very very rarely sees manual trucks come through the door.

Yes. The old version of that TSB and TSB-0125-18 are posted in this thread. The new versions can be downloaded from ntsha.gov . They pulled the MT references on the new versions for whatever stupid reason.

As you are feeling though, there is something to be gained in the ECU update. Why Toyota is not doing this is a massive mystery.

I suppose if we really wanted to get their attention. All of us 2018+ owners that would benefit from the update but cant get the update because it "wont work on our trucks" could file a complaint with the NHTSA. Maybe something would happen then?

The TSB software is applicable to 2016s through 2018s.

Persistence paid off in my case... this was the 2nd or 3rd time I've tried to have the dealer look at it. The key is work directly with the tech and make sure they actually run the tech stream vs. just putting in the notes that they did. The tech kept telling me there were no updates since the manual isn't listed on any of the TSBs but I begged him to just try it. I even offered to pay the billable hours for their work if I had to. When the tech agreed to at least try to push the update, he told me from their perspective there is 'no reverting' if anything goes wrong. Last, the dealer was concerned about being reimbursed by Toyota for this so they had me sign a 'goodwill' agreement (everything was no charge to me). The notes on my invoice show they installed under TSB T-SB-0013-19. It's an improvement after the update for sure - rev hang is gone and the surging in 2nd gear is almost non existent now. Hopefully this is helpful for someone out there w/the manual.

Would you happen to have a copy of that TSB handy for reference?

I do not and I don't see it listed in the TSBs section here either. Hopefully someone else can chime on... I'm attaching the notes shown on my invoice though that also include info for the clutch squeaking fix.

They're missing an '0,' but that TSB PDF and software is linked in THIS very thread. It can also be found at nhtsa.gov .

don't bother, that's not how it goes with NHTSA filings. the best resource is finding a local TW user with computer skills and TIS. or do it yourself.

I think he's asking about the TSB-0013-19 they referenced on my invoice a few lines down... is that one legit?

Sorry about that. That TSB will be on the nhtsa.gov website.
