I hear they will still play hockey tonight even without Grapes on the SN payroll.

The NHL threw Grapes under the bus as well so if you don't agree with the SN decision and need to show your solidarity with Grapes you may as well watch something else.

To be fair, that is only smart from a business standpoint, for the NHL. They gain nothing by going to bat for Cherry. So it doesn't prove anything.

I am not a fan of the guy, but I do think that most of this is very overblown. SN obviously has the right to fire him, as he represents the company. So it is what it is. But it is kind of annoying how everything in the public eye needs to appease the social justice warriors that exaggerate issues these days. Not trying to get political but that is the time that we live in. So in a way I feel bad for the guy but I understand the issue and in his recent video, it seems that he understands that it is just how things are today. So we move on and continue to watch hockey.

I feel it goes both ways. Sure, was the social media reaction initially overblown. Absolutely. I mean the website for reporting CRTC violations was overwhelmed, literally it shut down from the complaints. That being said so was the social media reaction after the firing. I mean it takes about five seconds to find opinions from the other side of the spectrum that were just as overblown. People love to point across the room for everything now and it sickens me, neither side is in the right. They are both fucking idiots.

As for SN, the order of social media posts really points towards the money driving this decision. I can't fault them at all for doing what their sponsors wanted especially given Grapes history. The more I read the more it sounds like SN was thinking about letting Grapes go for a while because he wasn't drawing the audience they feel they need/want, which effects sponsorship and ad revenue. This was the straw that broke the camels back.

Ya, I got that impression also. Like it was coming and this put it over the edge. And I do agree there is over-the-top outrage about the firing too. But like I said, that is society/culture these days, unfortunately. I try to stay middle of the road on the spectrum when it comes to things. I never understand the extreme spectrum of politics / opinion etc with people anymore. It is very annoying, as you said.

For sure and that's the problem. Offended people search for reasons to be offended. He did a 20 min interview the day before and said younger people. He also said he thinks immigrants should support and wear poppies. He's allowed that opinion but this new generation of fuck heads need something to fake outrage over

Just saw somehow Kings are working on a release to Kovalchuk. Not sure how that works because I thought +35 contracts couldn't be bought out but who knows. Just an FYI

I think they're looking at a mutual cancellation, which means he wouldn't be paid and become a free agent. I know there are a mess of rules that would still apply and I'm not sure the King's would get any cap relieve.
