    Try living in NJ. I pay almost 10k in f’n property taxes, one of the highest auto insurance rates in the country and big deal, I dont have to pump my own gas

    Pennsylvania can be pretty bad, but only in the dense urban areas.
    Pennsylvania is Philly and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between, in the famous saying. :p
    Out here in the sticks, it's not nearly so bad.

    Here's an interesting comparison:

    My one bedroom rental condo property just across the line in Hagerstown, MD...
    Approx $1,200 a year property tax.
    Maryland is another high tax state. :mad:

    My home in PA, on an acre of land, worth more than three times as much as the condo...
    Approx $1,900 a year, combined school tax and property tax. (These assessments are separate in PA).

    Renovated rental house in Johnstown, PA (The former home of my MIL)...
    Approx $1,400 combined.
    (Johnstown is pretty dreary and depressed... former steel mill town.)

    As for auto insurance...
    $729 a year for two vehicles, full coverage, a few hundred bucks deductible, I forget exactly...
    2005 Toyota Highlander and 2006 Toyota Tacoma.
    That's with Erie insurance.
    They probably won't even give you a quote if you have a lot of accidents and tickets... or live in Philly. :p
    (I'm not interested in fancy tech and especially not interested in paying insurance on a new vehicle).
