So I've been looking around at lifts lately and with so many options and so much that I don't know about what you really need for off roading I'd figure I'd ask for some practical advice.

I'd like to be able to drive down trails without feeling like I need to worry. Ones that we have in Colorado like Black Bear, Imogene, etc. Are kindof what I'm referring to. But mostly this is a truck to get me to work during the week, and to a fishing hole or mountain biking spot on the weekend.

Wouldn't mind it being a bit over built, but definitely not looking to break the bank. A kit around 1500 is probably my upper range. Around 1k to 1300 is probably the sweet spot.

Any suggestions for this use scenario? Also, do you advise getting aftermarket UCAs?

Thanks to everyone for reading and any suggestions.

Can’t go wrong with old man emu but ucas are highly advised for proper alignment specs. I’d invest in sliders, skid plates, and good tires first.

That's a good point. I'd rather not go above 3" and face the challenges and extra work that comes with that. Really just want enough that I don't have to worry on the trails. Open to suggestions on height outside of that.

A simple aal, ome 887 coils with shock of your choice like ome or 5100s, and ucas would be a good entry setup you can upgrade as the truck evolves.
I always think what good is lift if you hit a rock without armor it’ll happen just further down the trail.:notsure:

Find some people who will take out a noob with a stock truck. There are informal groups going out all the time. You can see what people carry on trails. A stock Tacoma is surprisingly capable.

That's definitely something to look into. Man, if it's doable stock it would be great to kindof figure out exactly what I need.

My folks live just outside Montrose I’ve done imogene and engineer pass in my truck. A stock truck can do it with the right line choice.

Go see what your comfortable with before spending money imho.

Full bilstein 5100s, 3 leaf AAL, SPC control arms for around $1300. Take 600 off that price if you won't be lifting more than 2" as you won't necessarily need UCA's although it doesn't hurt to have aftermarket if you're lifting the truck.

I have an ‘19 SR 4x4 and was very surprised how capable a stock Tacoma performed off-road. Not sure about your tires, but I run 265-75-16 hankook dyna pro atm tires. There are better tires out there, but for someone who is on pavement 99.9% of the time, the lighter weight of the hankook will be better for your mpg. I went Jeep trail riding with Jeepers (bad idea) and eventually they found lots mud holes to go through. With less then 1000 miles on it I put my Tacoma through some pretty rough stuff. Clearance and larger tires from a lift might have helped on the one time I got stuck, but my tires were caked in clay and everyone had trouble on that one. The limited slip worked much better then I would have thought and is very capable even in a SR.
