Hey guys ive run into a wall i recently dropped gas milage from 320 a tank to like 280 i have no idea whats going on. The only changes ive made is i put new brakes in but their not grinding or rubbing. I just installed 3° rear axle shims in the rear and i put a afe pro dry air filter in.

My truck is a 2005 1grfe with 120000 on the dash. Im running a 3 inch lift bilstien 5100s with ome 887s in the front and hd dakars in the rear no bumpers or added weight tho.

I tried running seafoam thru the tank and doing a seafoam intake clean to no avail. I dont have any engine lights on and toyota said they couldnt help me.

    Any help is appriciated

40 miles per tank is significant, but not totally unheard of for everything being in good condition. Have you been speeding at all recently? Any recent changes in driving habits? It's all relevant to a potential drop.

By any chance was it the rear brakes? Could be that they were over tightened and now the truck is fighting the resistance from them.

I’ve been tracking my gas mileage and seem to get better gas mileage in the city Vs highway. I get 17 city and 14.5 highway. I’m clueless. I have 265/75/16 everything else is stock. Something seems off. I have cleaned my throttle body and changed my k&n filter back to OEM.

I was under the impression that winter gas wasnt really different from summer gas any more

I’ve also lost about 2 mpg lately but I attribute that to the new LT winter tires I just put on....not sure if that was a good idea in hindsight.

Miles/tank is useless information. When you calculate miles/gallon then we have useful information.

ASSUMING that you filled up and put in EXACTLY 20 gallons each time you only dropped from 16 mpg to 14 mpg. That isn't a huge difference and about right when changing to winter fuel. And trying to judge fuel mileage going on miles/ tank is extremely inaccurate. Even when you think the tank is empty the amount of gas you put in could vary 2-3 gallons each time

I've seen a greater difference than that by driving into a steady wind vs with the wind at my back on the return trip. A slight difference in air pressure in your tires will account for more than 2 mpg, and with cold weather coming on your air pressure will naturally be less in your tires. Check them, they probably need more air.

That’s only 2 mpg roughly. It’s probably winter gas. Happens to us all

Best mpg I ever had was 21 in 4wd doing 45 to 50 mph in a blizzard with a tailwind.

Gentlemen... nothing to do with "winter" gas....it's just winter. From the frozen mid-continent here...my mileage drops 20% when the weather goes south.
Fluids get stiff, grease gets stiff... everything gets stiff (except meo_O). Burns fuel like crazy.

I agree miles per tank is useless information. MPG will give you a more accurate idea of what’s going on.

Technically winter blend gasoline has higher RVP and less energy than summer blend which is the reason for lower fuel economy.

We have smart phones at the top of the fingers, might as well use it!
