You know anything about AC circuits?

I'm looking at buying an Onan Emerald III RV generator tomorrow. It's a 6.5kW unit, with two 120v breakers. There are two hots, two neutrals, and one ground. Would I be able to combine the two 120v lines to make a single 220v circuit? I'm looking at powering my house with this. I just need one 220v outlet to go to a switchgear at my panel.

It's meant for motorhomes, so it's all hardwired. They're really cheap and really quiet.

You can see the wiring below for the power:

Possible, but unwise. Big safety issue having the two poles on two separate breakers. If one trips and the other doesnt, that could screw up whatever it is youre running off it.

Hmm, that's a real dealbreaker. I only need a 240v connection. I don't want to jerry rig it.

I'm not worried about power shutoffs simply because I've never been part of the outage area, I'm more getting ready for that big earthquake that's supposed to hit any second now.

Buy a champion inverter from Homedepot or Predator from HF.

Did you go up that concrete slab afterwards?

with the rear locker on and tires aired down might be no problem unless it's steeper than it looks in the pic

The reason I am leaning towards the Onan is because it's stupid cheap, quiet, and reliable. I'm only paying $200-$300 when a 6.5kW equivalent from Harbor Freight is $600.

Going to buy something like that, play it safe and hire an electrician who can do the install properly. Your local building ordinances may comes into play with that as well which might need to pass inspection. Homeowner(s) might freak if you set fire to the house

Don't end up a statistic, be safe.

The videos of Hollister make it look like a Fisher Price version of wheeling.

But theres also a warranty, and lack of second guessing yourself when buying new. I wouldnt buy a used generator unless I was using it just for running tools on a work truck all day. Most homeowner generators sit for like 99% of their lives. Carbs get screwy cause people dont know how to prep a small engine for long term storage.

I'd recommend you to get a Generac standby generator, runs off natural gas. I'd prefer that option, it's just out of my budget.

I'm going to be running a simple switchgear, I can shut off the subpanel so I wouldn't be working with a live circuit. The switchgear is very easy to install, so I'm not too worried to do it myself.

Fair is fair. I'll have to rethink my plan, especially if I don't have a dedicated 240v circuit from the stator.
