You probably do behind the circuit breakers just would have to redo that circuit panel for your purposes. Most old Place Arrows didn't need 240v

A generator is something that you want to work when you need it to. Buying used and jerry rigging can be risky. $600 or even $1k isnt that bad in the long term.

No joke although my guess is SoCal will take the brunt of it. Thinking the Garlock fault is going to pop before ours do.

You do know you recommended a harbor freight generator right?

We're both like what, 5-10 miles from the Hayward Fault? My high school was built directly below the fault line.

Predator inverters get great reviews. My dad has the home depot version, great little unit. Always a one pull start.

You're right. I just would prefer the more reliable and quiet brand (Onan) over Harbor Freight.

I'm getting conflicting answers. If you lookup "Onan Emerald III" half say they do 240v, half say they do 120v.

Pretty much all inverter units whether it be a welder, generator, etc are all made in China. Pick your favorite color box and go with it.

I'm not down to trust a Chinese gen head. I'm sure the little gas engines are fine though, they've got copying Honda down to a t now.

Yeah the Predator ~9000 watt unit was my first choice. About $700, and I can buy a carburetor that allows you to run natural gas and propane.

The Onan has that option too, it's just significantly less wattage.

Correct and it'll happen one day... the Garlock though... that one is scary. Ever since those 2 large ones down there, that whole area has lit up. So much activity.

He had his last generator for 12 years and never once needed it. So its not like we'd have to rely on it for long most likely. And all he wants it for is the fridge and a few lights/TV. Not an entire house setup so its fine for him.

This Onan unit I'm looking at is quite old, they were found in Pace Arrows and Fleetwood Bounders (the same RV from Breaking Bad). They were still American made.

What are you trying to run if the power does go out for any length of time?

The last time the power went out, two of our Koi died. They were worth about $800 each so that was a huge blow to my father's pond. Mainly we'd need to power the filtration system and pump, plus the obvious refrigerator, garage opener, and a few lights.
