What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Why would you want a switch inside the cab if the lights will automatically be switched on as the hood pops open? Seems like a waste to me.

 

In case you are going to be working under the hood for a long time in daylight it would allow you to make sure there was not a slow drain on the battery.

 

I mean, in that instance, you could just tape the button down or something along those lines. I totally get the reasoning behind it but Personally, I just feel like it’s a lot of extra work especially if you will be putting your switch for these lights in the center under the radio.

If it’s a lot of extra work then I can do without cab switch. I want semi simple as possible. Probably put the switch on left hand side of steering wheel though. Still if it makes for slot more work I’d be good just having push button switch. I’d still like some tips on the wiring though just to reassure myself of what to do

 

Well, there are always options. The pin switch is nice but you can always just wire in a normal switch and bypass the pin switch. I mean, you have to open the hood anyways so you will always be right there next to the switch. Of course the beauty of the pin switch is that you do not have to fumble for the light in the dark. You can also wire the switch under the hood in conjunction with the pin switch so that it is within easy reach if you want to shut it off. That is the option that I will most likely choose since it offers the option of turning off the light when I do not need it and the extra wiring for the switch will be minimal and simple. Taping it will work but if the tape fails and you either are not paying attention or you have stepped away from the hood for awhile you may not notice that the light has slipped on.

I am not a wiring guru although there are plenty here on TW that are wiring artists and there is always the good old internet that is full of help. The circuit is about as simple as it gets so you should not have too much of a problem finding a good diagram to follow.

 

Wiring to left of steering wheel is SO MUCH easier to me.

I’m pretty sure you have to take the AC controls, Headunit, and radio surround all out to be able to push one of the blanks out of their spots in the middle console slot. Then fish the wire down through to come out near the gas/brake pedals. If you never took your dash apart there are some good videos. After the first time doing it though, it does become a breeze.

 

When I bought this there were lights drilled into the rear bumper. I went off-roading with some friends and smacked the pod on a rock and I dented the rear bumper. So yesterday I moved them to my front bumper.

 

Took advantage of a nice day and installed Trail Ridge heated with LED turn signals tow mirrors. Got them on sale $269 w/free ship. Noticed today price was back up to $329. Can’t tell ya how good/bad they are cause all my toys are put away for the winter. They make me feel like I’m driving a full size truck. In this position, there is no vibration on bumpy roads or highway. Only took about 10 min for each side to install. Just plug-n-play, except for the heated mirror. I need to buy a Toyota switch for this and wire it up. For those who do not know, the 2015 TRD Off Road has the 5 wire pin connector for the LED mirror.

 

Looks ok, but an extra 5 mins. and you could have painted it off the truck, no?

 

Since I ordered a new Raptor grill with the 3 amber leds I was thinking about doing a amber DRL LED in the stock turnsignal bulb housing.
I assume I need a switchback as a dual filament pertains to a halogen bulb.
Anybody got a link to a good one that wont melt my aftermarket headlights?

 

I took mine into the dealership for the blinking 4x4 light issue.

Not in the order I did things prior to taking it in but: I've had the front ADD off 2x, soldered it, no corrosion, replaced it thinking I messed up reassembly of it somehow, transfer case actuator off, tested, no corrosion, motor brushes are great, position switches - found a bad one the 4HI position switch on the t-case but the issue persisted after that was replaced. Verified reassembly timing/position of the t-case actuator was correct, used a battery to move the t-case actuator motor and it shifts into 4-hi and 4-lo and back to 2hi no issues. I was testing the 4x4 ECU and getting very weird voltages at certain pins so I bought a salvage off ebay and nope that's not it. Then the truck started doing very weird things: It'd start but then gurgle and die in a second or two. If I unplugged the 4x4 ECU it'd run fine and had a few angry lights (ABS+TC) on the dash. If the 4x4 ecu was hanging down not in it's bracket it wouldn't gurgle and die at start up. It never would shift from 2Hi to 4Hi though. Oh and I put my snow perfectly matched tires on since my non-snows are slightly mismatched by 2 to 3/32" due replacing 2x of the tires after a sidewall puncture after 10k miles on the original set.

According to the dealership the tech verified the t-case and ADD are fine, ECU's themselves are fine, 4wd dash switch is fine, so after calling the Toyota line for techs they think it's wiring behind the dash at the "J2 junction box". And $750 to get the whole dash completely apart to look at it. Basically the wiring harness sounds fucked. $900 so far in just labor.

It's really the only issue I've had with it in 101k miles though. I just really need 4x4 fixed for the mountains and snow. Paid it off the week before I found the issue.

i was taking it off the other day, but couldnt get some of the clips off on the bottom of the grille, so just did it without taking it off

They sent it UPS 3 day, but it took 2 weeks. I got different excuses from different customer service reps.... Not likely to order from them again.....but......If you watch this item and are patient, they like to drop the price to $299 plus an additional 10-25% off. This is rare, but you have to stay on top of it for that coupon code. You can get a better deal than I got.
