Oops, sometimes I don't get notifications in here. Wonder what's up with that

Right now I'm unsure. I have some questions I want answered by Alcan. I'm thinking leaf springs that are 8 in overstock length with their orbit eyes at both ends will meet my needs. I don't think I need to go spring under. I'm looking to pull extra travel, but I'm not looking for jumping truck levels of travel. With the extra spring length helping to keep the progressive load handling soft and those orbit eyes reducing the bind on droop (can still droop more once binding begins like a normal bushing setup). I know it'll be a decent amount of travel overstock, but without a little help from alcan I can't even begin to guess at travel so I can't guess at shocks. I'm more than willing to punch through the wheel well area of the bed for shocks if it means getting all of my travel. That is commonly unused space for me anyway when camping. I'm also thinking of using a second gen rear axle temporarily. It's about long enough and it should hold me over until I decide if I want a full floater. But that's just more unsprung weight. I'm shooting for a truck that comfortably and flexes it's way over terrain, reducing bind and tension is the goal, that makes for a good ride. Intense handling at speed isn't priority one though it should still come out better than my previous two trucks. For the front the only thing I really have planned in addition to the MCM LT is it set of 2 in bump stops recessed into the back bump stop strike box on the frame and some limit straps.

8" longer springs? Longer than what you have now...hmm..will that even fit? I know they are short but that seems a bit long.

My problem with holes in the bed is it's a place for mud and dirt to get in to cover the gear.

And a 2nd gen axle isn't worth it. It's barely any wider. Think it's 1" per side.

8" longer should be no problem, again I have to ask them to be sure that it's worth the gain, otherwise I'll do 5" longer.

Going through the wheel well area isn't too bad, I'd just build some sheet metal boxes around my shock towers to keep crap out. That really hasn't been a huge concern of mine though, I don't have an enclosed bed and other than fiberglass flared bedsides I won't have much else going on back there to avoid adding weight.

The problem is as you go longer and stay SOA, you'll loose uptravel given the same ride height. You will increase overall travel, but it will be all down.

I've got a bit to gain back compared to a 98-04 taco though, my leafs are 3.75" shorter than yours to begin with. Here's a question for you Brett, as I increase leaf length does changing the shackle position affect the ratio of down to up travel?

    I don't think so.

You would want the shackle the correct length for the longer leafs, and then set them up so they're at about 45° at ride height.

Theoretically, you could move the shackle forward, increase that shackle angle, and get more lift and uptravel, but that would preload the leafs and decrease ride quality.

Yeah thats kind of why I was leaning towards SUA. Its about the up travel. I mean in Frank I have enough lift that I have 5.5'' of up travel but it means i have a lot of lift. Brett is currently in a similar setup with a lot of rear lift to gain the up travel.

Overall you should get more travel with SUA vs a SOA due to the gains from the up travel. The issue here becomes ride height and not having enough down travel if you do too much lift. Which Im a bit worried about as I don't like bro lean and actually very much like rake.

Definitely silly. But I'm not a copious amount of lights person either. I earned all of my EAF points when I got a Toyota, that's kinda the extent of it for me

yes for sure on the silly side haha

however. the S1 lights look great. 2''x2'' and a 20w light. I think Im gonna grab a pair for the lil truck for ditch lights. I might try making a mirror mount as well.

Not as silly as you think. I like your setup.

I’m running dual cubes both spot and flood (flood on outside, black road covers on)

its not mine. Idk whos it is. I can see it being useful in some ways for sure. But not really needed to do it that way I think.

    You earned EAF when
You rolled your Tacoma and drove it home and rebuilt it.

That was a fun time. One of the better learning experiences I've had, that summer was a hectic blast. Funny, very few things I did to that truck will apply to this one

oh yeah I run ditch lights on two of mine and they have saved me from hitting deer more times than I can count.

wanting to add some to my DD taco as well.

Speaking of lights. Got the new headlights in @Speedytech7 and harness. Hopefully do that on sunday. As well as swap the steering column I got from Brett so I'll have Tilt and vari speed wipers. Then repair my pump wiring and I'll have wind shield washer fluid again thank god.

I love my ditch lights, they’re never point forward but I still use the chit out of them.
