Is my throw out bearing bad from the start?

Around January I had Speed Freak install a URD comp stage 2 clutch kit for the 5VZ 4wd. and since they dont sell Flywheels. A LCE 38 lbs Flywheel.

The reason for the upgrade was I had a bad sounding whir and what sounded like worn bearings sound unless the clutch was pressed in.

Once we completed the job my truck was making a similar noise unless the clutch was pressed... only this time it was like a super charger whine that continues to get louder as I accelerate.

It has been 9 months and I have had serious issues with this setup..

The first 2,000 miles were ugly and smelled of clutch all over the place and the sound never got quieter, No I was not romping on it either.

I would love to buy a new throw out bearing and have it be fixed .. but its a full day to exchange such a small part..

Again the sound goes away once the clutch is pressed in, And since day one has it been this way.

Once the clutch broke in it grabs well but the sound is driving me insane!!!!!

 

sounds like you have a bad input shaft bearing,i would think the tob would make more noise when the pedal was depressed.

 

Is that replaceable by pulling the trans back and inspecting the clutch?

 

uh,i dont think so..you will need to go into the trans.

well,it depends.its not gonna cost much for the part,but if you cant do it yourself it will be alot of labor charges.if it was me, i would replace all the shaft bearings while i was in there.

 

Yeah its like a $40 part... but finding someone to do it is gonna suck ><

 

if you can pull the trans out, you will save yourself alot of money.then take it and let them put the bearings in,and you put it back in.a big chunk of the labor is gonna be from pulling the trans.

mine makes the exact same noise.....im in need of a new clutch so i might check it out while im in there but it really dont bother me to much

 

I believe we are on the right track here, hey Micah is that "Turbo whine" you speak of in all gears or just certain ones ??

 

Mainly just first gear and idle really bad.. once i start to get up in gears you don't hear it anymore.

 

Yep I agree with HondaGM, it may not be completely toast yet, but its time is very limited.

& he mentioned taking it out (the trans.) yourself to save some $$

Also a good call but you will want a reputable shop to do the bearing replacement because that shaft runs the entire length of the trans & its in the center surrounded by other,shorter shafts with gear clusters if I'm not mistaken, a scary environment to be in if you've never messed with a manual trans...

i dont ever mess with transmissions.....it is way to easy to screw the pooch......my noise goes away after the truck warms up though?

 

Well yours maybe another issue, once that input bearing makes its presence known (making noise) it usually doesn't go away, but it sometimes will do it in different gears i.e'; no noise in 1st but sounds like its going to grenade in 3rd...

I have Speed freak, AKA Jason to do the work for me. He said he will tackle it head on for me.

I just need to set up a date and buy the parts.

Going to replace all 3 just in case,

Throw out bearing, Pilot bearing and input shaft bearing.

I am very aggressive to my truck.. high revs and hard shifts are a norm for getting on the freeway for me.
