I missed a huge 8pt from that tree several years ago:facepalm:
Slow this afternoon. One tiny yearling and right before dark, one lone doe.
    This is the yearling

This may look like a different area from my previous pic, but it's the same tree. This deer is on an old train bed that has oaks that were dropping. It's to my back.

First day of the Ohio 2020 archery season some resident hunter is going to be sitting in the usually empty parking lot wonder where the fuck all these trucks came from.

Our son wanted to go turkey hunt last year at the ripe age of 6. Where we hunt we had to walk through some knee high grass. We got back to the truck after hunting and I bet we pulled 30 small ticks off of us. After the ticks and seeing the snake not far from us I said I’ll hunt turkeys at the grocery store from now on.

I’ve only ever killed one but man was it good. A lot better flavor than store bought.

Check out the Thermacell. It will keep ticks and mosquitoes far away. As for snakes, shotgun 'em.

Turkeys are the best tasting animal in the woods in my opinion.

It's sweet when you first go into the woods and you hear a gobble. You know it's on. Reminds me of Spring just thinking about it.

My only issue with point restrictions is it forms a "protected" class of buck that really need removed. Where I'm at in southeast Pennsylvania, we have so many large spikes and four points. There is not enough junior hunters to
Only 5 months away!! Love the hills in the spring. Dogwood and eastern redbud blooming.... Chasing birds till noon, trout fishing in the afternoon. Cold beer to follow.

I've hunted turkeys many times, love hearing them gobble before they come off the roost. Have talked back and forth with them but never called one in.

The only one I ever killed I was going to check on goats after work one day and it was turkey season. There was a gobbler in the goat lot so I backed the truck up and got my gun and went and shot it. It was a simple kill but it wasn't like hunting them.

When I lived at my parents I was working in the shop one day and there was a thunder storm rolled up and every time it thundered a gobbler would hammer. My brother ask me where my shotgun was, he got it and went after it. He wound up killing it, it was 22 lbs, had a 10" beard and 1 1/4" spurs. It's the only turkey he's ever killed.

We were both wearing our work clothes, not a single stitch of camo on.

I've seen way more turkeys in deer season than I have in turkey season :D

I've called them on with the old wooden scratch box calls. Last year actually called two in the same time with it. They went right for my Jake decoy. I left the hen decoy on the ground like they were gonna breed, those two Toms weren't having that. Walked right past me literally 5 feet past me and totally ignored me. Heart was pounding, I love that rush. Nothing like it. Dropped the big one with one shot.

That's an awesome story about your brother.

Last year I saw hundreds of Turkey during bow season. This year, not one bird.

That's awesome you called them in that close and got the big one. I cant call them in, never have been able to. I just haven't put my heart into it like deer hunting.

I remember as a kid we didn't have turkeys around where we live, now they are plentiful but we can only kill 2 toms in the spring where we live. They need to open up where we can kill some hens, they are plentiful now. I've seen as many as 35 at one time while deer hunting. Maybe 6-8 males and the rest of the group hens.

That's great. They're tough to call up and shoot. We are reversing a natural cycle by trying to get the Tom to come to us. Normally they gobble and the females come to them. That's why it is so tough to kill them. Check out my media page. I've got a few I've killed mounted around one of my deer in my "man cave garage".

I killed 2 monsters this past spring. One had an 11.5 inch beard and 1.5 inch spurs...yes 1.5. We guessed him to be 4 years old. The second one was just a hair smaller. He hung up at 75 yards and gobbled/strutted for 2 hours. I threw the book at him. He wouldn't come in so I laid the calls down. He finally decided he couldn't take it anymore, ran to the hen decoy and pounced on her. Last piece of tail he ever chased. They're on their own time. A lot of people don't have the patience to hunt them. They're frustrating animals.

I don’t know if you saw my pic from this past spring but I took the wife out and tried to get her one and ended up doubling up. Luckily I brought my pump just in case. I gave her the more accurate semi auto thinking she would be getting the only shot. Lol.

The normal spots where the turkeys normally frequent were silent and we walked all the way to the very end of the property and barely heard one gobble about 150-200 yards away in the woods and was able to coax them in. I have only been turkey hunting for about 5-6 years so I’m still getting my mouth calling skills refined but it is way more excited than deer hunting for sure. Not doubt about that.

I did not see it. That's great man. Nothing like doubling up. My old man and I have done that before.

Mouth call is the way to go. I like triple reeds that are super raspy. They will make all the sounds that are necessary to kill one. Sometimes a little purr followed by silence is the deadliest thing you can do.
