My question wasn't about accuracy. The concern was lag. i.e. blip the throttle, the truck's built-in tach needle will respond instantly, but the HUD might take 1-2 sec to update. Here the system may be limited by the PCM data update rate from the OBD2 port (is it 1 Hz? 10 Hz?). This affects some vehicle models more than others.

A big question I have too. I'd hate to lose my BT OBD app.

Personally I think the color match dash and OEM blue or close are definitely a yes. The logo's are kinda redundant, if it has factory fit and finish, no need to advertise Toyota. You could get into some legality with Toyota using their logo like AJT and his TRD logo fobs.

I may have missed it but will you be able to scroll across what the display shows like the center cluster?

Were you able to see this unit in operation even if it weren't on a Tacoma? Curious how it works in real world driving with glares and reflections since I know these aftermarket units can appear a little fuzzy on the screen. Does that reflective film help with polarized sunglasses? One of the downsides with current HUDs is that the display disappears if you wear polarized sunglasses.

I can hardly wait to see your video of the prototype panel in action. I’m hoping theres enough real estate and resolution on the HUD to
separate and read all the numerous items. Also will this work the same on all trim levels?

    uhhhh....dog fur?
Will the display be over the steering wheel or slight outboard due to the location of the 'projector'?
The demo images show the display projection directly above the projector, which with our dash is really short.
How big is the reflective film?

Still watching, interesting piece of tech

That is bond to happen, cause HUDs work off glare/reflection, which your polarized glasses are made to filter out.
No way around it, unless you flip the angle of polarization, then you have all HUD and no more road in front of you.

Hmm not sure how I feel about that huge reflection, you can see the entire plastic unit. I think in this case HUD stands for heads up dashboard

What are the more competitively priced units may I ask? I’ve been open for suggestions on pricing. I’ve been doing research and I just haven’t seen much myself, but maybe I’m not looking in all the right places. That’s why more eyes are better than just mine.

One of the HUGE BENEFITS in my opinion is that it does not have a huge bump sticking up on your dash that takes away the site which defeats the whole purpose of why you are wanting the HUD in the first place which is supposed to help prevent Dangerous Driving Distractions.

SECOND would be this is a Built-in OEM Device in our Dash that lays Flat. It doesn’t bulge out of the dash or take up space in any way. You will barely even know it is there. It is flat to the dash. If you watch my video on the first page, you will see how flat the panel really is on the Camry panel. I suspect the Tacoma panel to be similar.

    https://youtu.be/gLPkKEXGjN8
THIRD would be that it is CUSTOM TO THE TACOMA. I personally have a vendor that is working directly with me on this product and I’m sure sure as technology improves so will this product, which means our product specifically for the Tacoma will improve. Which other vehicle has one specifically built for them and designed for them that isn’t universal? I would love to make it like the new Toyota Prius but that cost $160K.

Let me come up with more reasons, but I’m already on my way to work as these next couple days are really crazy at work, but take a look at what I have posted here and get back to me.

The bump is somewhat unsightly but our trucks have a large hood which means all of that design is just going to overlap with the hood anyway. Military aircraft HUDs also have to deal with some solid framework that has the potential to detract from visibility but it's pretty minimal. To my knowledge, no HUDs reflect something off of the canopy; it's instead reflected unto one or more glass panes that comprise the HUD. I think something similar would be the best option for our trucks as it grants the most amount of flexibility as far as shape, design, and position goes (don't know much about helping with polarized glasses, though).

If there was a quick way to hook up an ODB input to a Raspberry Pi...I bet that'd be the best route to take. Then you can write basic software to display anything you want and send the output to a tiny projector or something. Then computer nerds can make different software to display more/less/custom output. But that's just my techno-fantasy speaking. A pre-fab unit that reflects off of the windshield is still a major step up for Tacomas.

I agree, I wouldn’t want an intrusive protruding lump sticking up from the dash, this looks as if it was factory designed and is only minimally
Intrusive. Also, I have no problem with the proposed price point, I’d rather pay a little more for something that was designed for the truck as opposed to something cheaper that may also work but I’m less happy with.

I think your price seems reasonable and I like the plug and play with it matching OEM. Cannt wait to see it in action.
