I’d be shocked if Mike Leach went there. He’d need a few years to build, and Arkansas won’t give him that time.

    Head unit. That's it.
One of the metrics we seem to have forgotten is how late in the season you lose.

If you apply that to any of these scenarios, it can change the complexion.

I enjoy watching the rinse/repeat cycle of these coaching searches.

But in all honesty here is my thoughts; I think Arkansas picked a bad time to hire a coach. They are going to get stuck with another mediocre hire - simply not that many coaches on the market right now. Especially with bluebloods FSU/USC currently on the prowl, also.

-Why the hell would Gus Malzahn leave Auburn? He's too good for Arkansas. Ark and Aub fans are delusional about that guy - whole different topic
-Mike Leach dabbles in the coaching carousel every year in order to leverage a raise, same with Gundy.
-Mike Norvell will be at a bigger school next season, but not Arkansas

Arkansas won't end up with their first choice. I think Arkansas ends up with a Derek Dooley-ish hire. Maybe an unknown coordinator or G5 coach that wasn't their first option. Bret B wasn't a terrible coach but I think it was doomed from the start while the Nick Saban effect was in full-swing

Cause he should be fired...gus has been nothing but average with the exception of his first season, how many more years will auburn allow him to lose 2+ SEC games a year and never be in contention?

Maybe I'm too conservative or just a Vols fan. But holy shit man, there are 126 teams in D1. #13 is pretty f'ing good

It's the rabbit hole we have seen so many schools go through chasing a mirage; Tennessee, Texas, Florida, USC, TAMU

Yea its a crazy statement to say that but he's been there 7 years and has three 8-5 seasons and a 7-6..I would not be happy with him being inconsistent, my cousin went to Auburn and she wants him out. Sure auburn could potentially beat UGA and Bama...but also looking at another 8-5 season as well. SEC West is tough don't get me wrong but 2 good seasons vs 4 bad is not what you want to see as a fan

What? Just stating a fact, or do you just like the opinions of the non-fan base only?

SEC West is the best conference in football - there is no question. TAMU is a conference champ in any other conference (besides B10). But my point is - who on earth would Auburn hire that is worth the risk of firing Malzhan?

I think the issue most say/see with Malzahn is the same boat LSU went through. Great program, consistently at the top in recruiting, always in the conversation...but never THE conversation. That's partially because of Bama/Saban success (or bias) and everyone is comparing to them. Yes, 2 losses is a good season when you compare it to most, but if those 2 losses are to the same schools every time...schools that aren't having 2 losses....then why are you not getting to the level of at least trading with them every other year or so?

UGA and LSU both were able to make bombshell hires with instant success after firing solid coaches. But history tells us those are the exceptions and not the expectation

Of course it's easier said than done to get that right coach but again how long can you accept averaging 4 losses per season? Auburn hasn't been in title contention since 2013..wouldn't you want a new coach? Shit as a Florida fan we have had some wild years since 2013 but have had more successful seasons (and a lot worse one's too:rofl::anonymous:)than auburn with 3 different coaches but yeah it took a few bad years and different coaches but looks like they finally got a guy who can take them to a title. I know the east is nothing like the west but after 7 years its pretty obvious Gus isn't the guy to win a national championship, his best season was his 1st season with Chizik's recruits.

Really interesting article I found during another meeting :D I think it's from pre-season since it mentions Nebraska having a shot at making noise with a weak schedule... :bananadead:

But the "Blue Chip Ratio" is new to me and found it interesting.

As a UGA fan that wanted Richt gone for a few years before he was finally let go, I totally understand auburn fans wanting rid of Gus. 9 and 10 wins seasons are great, and most places in the country would take that every year with no complaints. But, at some point you want to win that one extra game that actually gets you into title contention. Hell, Missouri won the East 2 years in a row when we still had Richt - all because we would fold in 2 games a year (toward the end of his tenure it was more than 2 games a year, but you get the point). I even said after we lost to Vandy and The north Avenue trade school that I was ok with going 6-6 or 7-5 for a year or two if it meant a total rebuild to get over the hump. Basically what happened in kirby’s first year. Then a national championship appearance the following year along with now (hopefully) 3 straight trips to the SECCG. We’re still dropping a game every year that we shouldn’t, but you can overcome 1 game and still make the CFP.
