Filled my buck archery tag today. Now it's time to try to shoot a doe or two.

So we went hunting this afternoon hoping to see an elk. But nothing, so bout 30min to last light we moved down the field some, we spot about 8 doe 500yds away. Still havent really shot that far so we decided to try and move closer, range finder was being sketchy in the field so we got about 300yds to the closest ones. Then this big doe pops out about 285yds i tell my wife to get on it with the rifle. About that time something spooks the other deer and they start running! The 285yd doe still standing there looking around broadside, i tell her to shoot now before it takes off. Boom. I see it jump and run, i felt she had a good hit even though i rushed her. Go look for blood and find lung matter and blood, follow it maybe 30yds and the doe was done. She did manage to cross a small creek, but didnt get far from that. Weighed her at 160lb full weight didnt have a lot of fat. Prob 5.5yrs old.300 win mag with vortex viper scope and 180 fusion bullet

I figured my wife's smoke pole out why it wouldn't cock yesterday. It's from a lack of cleaning on my part. The break down release wouldn't go all the way forward and that won't let the barrel seat and that won't let the trigger go back. You can see the small difference of where the release is in these photos. What was dirty is the face where the firing pin is, it was very minimal and I scraped it with my pocket knife and it works good now. I'll clean it good and put it up until next year, rifle season opens here tomorrow.

I learned a valuable lesson, clean the entire gun, not just the barrel/breech plug.
