Question before I install a big-a** battery

Hey... I’m hoping the TW hive mind can give me an assist this morning.

I picked up a X2Power 27f battery to stick in the 2020 TRDOR. I’ve read a few things on threads here and have a couple of questions:

1. Should I do anything to reinforce the battery tray considering the increased weight?

2. If yes, can you make a product recommendation?

My 2nd gen came with a group 27F. The 3rd gen doesn't?

I put a 27F in my 2016 Off Road, Just replaced the try with the right one from Toyota. Works Just Fine !!!

You just need a new battery tray.

 

Correct that the 2020 uses a 27f and I should have been more specific. I’m upgrading to a AGM 27f which increases the weight by 20+ lbs. I’ve read that the tray and support underneath might be a bit light for the additional weight and thus benefits from reinforcement.

I’m just trying to validate that before I drop it in.

 

I have the AGM 27f installed with no additional reinforcement. Still holding strong after a few thousand miles and heavy offroading.

A lot of guys with cracked core supports on here with heavier batteries, especially when they off-road.

So is there any means to address this before something cracks? Steel battery tray, aditional bracing, etc?

 

Battery relocate. The other stuff doesn’t work prevent the cracks.

 

That is interesting that Toyota started putting 27F for 2020, the 2016-2019's use 24F.

 

I needed longer J bolts.

 

The radiator support brackets can crack with a heavier battery:

The owner specifically said he “wheels hard” and later in the thread basically said he abuses his truck off road and he accepts that the truck has broken cracks. Saying the battery caused it just isn’t the case, imho.

 

I think it is wise for the OP to read the thread and decide for himself. A bit of relevant info won't hurt.

BTW: I didn't say the heavier battery caused cracking, I said a heavier battery can cause cracking (as has been documented).

There are many who don’t and have cracks, so YMMV.
