Hey everyone so I had a quick question regarding passing an emission test in Georgia. I'm looking to replace my exhaust system with the URD spec U, which removes the rear catalytic converter. After Doing some research I have come to the conclusion that this piece alone, although illegal, won't make you fail emissions. My question arises in the next modification to the headers.

I'm also looking to install the spec U headers, which would remove the front catalytic converter. In Georgia there is no visual testing during emissions, they simply just plug in their OBDII scanner and run the test. URD offers an O2 simulator that is plug and play with the factory harness. It essentially just spoofs the data so your check engine light doesn't come on, so with the OBDII testing it would still show that the catalytic converter was working properly. So does anyone with any insight know if I would be able to pass an emission test?

P.S. yes, I know that just removing a single catalytic converter is illegal, however I'm not really worried about that. The chances of actually getting in trouble for that seems slim to none.

I love living in a state with no inspections at all.

haha, I'm pretty sure they are legally supposed to, however every time I've gotten it done no one has checked

I was on the line about getting the headers or not, doesn't seem like too much of a hp gain. You don't think it's worth it?

From a standpoint as far as everyone whos on the road behind you, keep the cats on the daily driver.

if you have never been behind a car without cat's as far as an exhaust gas standpoint you are lucky... the emissions reduction cats do are astounding.

Im not talking politics here, im talking from a standpoint of the health and well being of other drivers on the road (as well as the planet). zero need to have a daily driver without cats.

    None... yet
I would think that it would fail the tail pipe test. The OBDII mod will only fool the computer. But the Cats burn off extra fuel that will now get past and be detected on the tail pipe test. Other readings might be lower, but it will most likely show that something is wrong. Which might in turn make them do a visual inspection and see that you don't have the cats.

Sir you are making it about politics. Im simply stating that being behind a car without cats sucks, its almost nauseating.

OP can do whatever he wishes, im just questioning the need to remove ALL of the cats, sure go for the rear ones but id leave the front ones.

I've never had a tailpipe test done on mine during emission testing

AFAIK (and how it works in CA), within the last like 10 years there was a ruling that vehicles newer than MY 2000 do not need a tailpipe test so long as there are no check engine lights and the OBD diagnostics are reporting back all good.

Technically yes you could do exactly what you describe in your OP and be good... but you would absolutely fail a visual if the inspector did their job right.

awesome thanks for the clarification, think I'm just going to go with the exhaust kit for now and think on the headers, no reason to drop 650 if there isn't much of a horsepower increase. Maybe something I'll think about once I get a c38-91 rotrex supercharger installed haha
