Idk man, IMO low speed torque is better than red lining the piss out of a underpowered 4/6 banger.

The Ford 4.0L Cologne V6 I had seemed to have an ass load of bottom end torque even connected to that crappy AOD slush box transmission they came with. It felt like it had a lot more bottom end than the Jeep I6 4.0L HO engine w/a manual in my YJ. I can only imagine the Chevy Votech 4.3L was as good or better--plus you probably have a lot more transmission options with the Chevy small block bell housing. Both engines would be cheap and easy to futz with to get the torque curve where you wanted it, being they are push rod engines, especially if they had stand alone aftermarket support for the EFI/Ignition systems. Granted they wouldn't breath as well as a 24v engine, but on the plus side they would probably be smaller and lighter than a V8. But you probably know more about tuning engines than I do. I just wonder if maybe your experience doesn't make you a little bias toward V8s like the rest of the performance industry seems to be?

For me, it really comes down to: the more power you have on tap, the more potential you have to break shit and get yourself in trouble.

I understand what you’re saying, but Ls series motors are more abundant, more powerful and more efficient for a fraction of the price. Parts are plentiful and cheap as well, the interchangeability is worth the swap alone.

As far as V8 bias, possibly but the simplicity and parts availability are the biggest benefits IF one we’re to do a swap. I paid $1975 for a high mileage 1GR and $225 bucks for a 4.8 with less miles, intake to oil pan.

Non-interference, plenty of parts available including any aftermarket parts you desire. Also you can get engine, ecu, tranny, harness for $300 all day long. If you want to keep it Toyota it's a valid option. The trannys some come with will bolt right up as well.

I was thinking 2uz for some reason, my bad. Still, to me it’s a no brainier. Dohc V8’s are not fun to swap or work on in tight compartments. Kudos to you for keeping with your platform though, seriously, nothing cookie cutter about the way you do things.

Oh yeah I'm not a fan of the 2uz as they weigh more being iron block for not much more hp and at that point I totally see going LS. For me it was I can still use my tranny and get slightly more hp than my turbo goals were.

im def going 5.3 LS with maybe a mild cam and im really thinking of doing a turbo setup for my Tacoma. I got the 80 for weekend stuff and I plan on getting a corolla hatch with a stick for daily driving (giving my tercel to my sister). so why not go full retard with the Tacoma with LT and LS swap with T56 haha

If you’re serious, do a TR6060, stronger, little cheaper and remote mounted shifter makes it easier to locate the shifter where you need it.

I have one in my Challenger and it’s fucking stout, even power shifting on the 150 shot.

That's pretty much what I'm bitchin' about...so little aftermarket support for V6s. And like you mentioned, maintenance on a V8 stuffed into an engine bay meant for a V6 or I4 is kinda tight.

    Been there, almost did that...

Edit: If I had it to do over, I'd have taken the cab and 22RE from the '87 and put it on/in my '83 that had a shot out 22R and no A/C.

Demand dictates aftermarket for the most part.

I’m only speaking as IF one were already planning on a swap though.
