I've been through the school of muzzle loader hard knocks too.

I went once and forgot to take extra loads with me. Shot at a deer, missed it, it ran 10 feet and looked at me. I went through all the motions of reloading and aiming at it and it never moved.

I had a nice 8 pt coming in a couple years ago like clock work. Left my gun loaded in the toolbox of my truck for 2 weeks before season (not sure what I was thinking there) deer came out, I shot, the moist pellet powder left a trail of smoke across the field straight at him. Never saw him again. I could go on, I try, I fail, I try again, lol.

I didn't clean my wifes smoke pole like I should and she missed a chance at a nice 8 point, did I mention that happened yesterday?

Ive had numerous missed STEAKS!! Couple seasons back got a new muzzle loader for Idaho because they have some stupid laws. Anyhow took it out behind the house shot it, good to go or so I thought...coming down this ridge skid road I see a group of elk cows--It was late muzzleloader and elk cows was open! so I go to aim fire and all I see is them run! I had a good sight not very far maybe 60-70yd at most if that...go look no blood no hair, still unsure I look for another hour nothing. I go the next day and still nothing, jump some more but cant shoot because I dont know if I hit the other one or not! Finally frustrated and 99%sure I didnt hit one I look at my rear sight and it was about to fall off!! it was so loose it was just dangling so Most likely I shot over the elks back! ended up seeing another cow but forgot my range finder and after the previous mixup I just passed. :goingcrazy::pout:

I’ve worked in the same machine shop for 24 years. Back when Thompson Center Encores got popular several friends I know got them and wanted me to make them a hammer extension out of stainless steel. I did. A friend missed a good deer because of it, he didn’t shoot it beforehand and the weight changed on the hammer and it wouldn’t fire. Remade them out of aluminum and they work great.

On a side note, I am cleaning my encore and the firing pin was almost rusted solid. Glad it worked for me a couple weeks ago.

I have been lucky with this lhr redemption muzzleloader it is the only gun I have killed a deer with. My season is done, injury at work has me on the sideline I am glad I was able to get one. If I get cleared I might be able to go back out but will not able to go to doe week:pout:.
