What experience does everyone have with a regular bed and a 65" TV? To me it seems like the dimensions work for the width of the bed (above wheel well) with a little bit sticking out on the length side propped up over the tailgate and rope + tie downs. The box of the set I'm looking is 38 inches wide which would give wiggle room.

Just do what I did with mine - toss a moving blanket over the top of it and tie it down. My TVs all remained vertical in transport. I still remember unpacking a bunch of plasmas to set up at work that had been laying flat, and they were all busted. I know the new LCDs are better than that, but why take chances?

Yeah... keep it vertical. Better safe than opening the box to find a cracked screen.

True a cracked screen would stink, just trying to fit in the bed the best way possible but like the moving blanket idea.

They are usually made just for Black Friday, different model numbers and with less ports etc. You have to look close at the specs as they usually cheap on the internals.

From my past retail life, working at Best Buy. All the TVs (at that time) that we received for Black Friday sales were off-models with weird (cheap) warranties. Some were even refurbished insides in new cases. I personally would never by a black friday tv after having worked there. Granted, I don't go out on Black Friday so I don't buy anything that day :D

I was at best buy looking at 32 inch Samsung TVs years ago and they was $425 . I saw some other ones Samsung 32 same box $250 . I ask the employee and he said those are black Friday TVs. The model number was the same except the last number . He then showed me how the specs was different . Forget to quote you , GreyBaldTaco .

They did the same thing with digital cameras, camcorders, dvd players, and small appliances (that I am aware of). My time working there was around 2005.

No kidding, me neither. I knew various retailers would have the manufacturer give them each their own item number so they can get out of price-matching but I've never heard of them having special models just for Black Friday. Seems that would be very expensive for something intended for sale on just one day per year. It's really only the doorcrashers that are awesome deals on Black Friday anyways, everything else you can usually get just as cheap or cheaper through the holidays or on sale normally.

It usually cost less to do it. Use the same plastic outer and replace the internals with something different. Maybe not cut out a particular hole for a port or 2. Often times the parts were refurbished. Manufacturers loved dumping stuff they were likely not going to get rid of anyway. Throw a cheap warranty on it and then never see it again - "Sorry, you are out of warranty and the cost of fixing it is going to be more than what you paid" was a very common response we had to issues that cropped up in February/March from these deals.

Another reason to get out of town for a road trip rather than spend the day at the mall!

Wish I had a picture, but I fit an 82inch from Costco in my DCSB earlier this summer.

If you want to buy a TV, wait for the week after Superbowl and go to Best Buy. They sell TV that were purchased/returned for the game as "open box" and you can usually get quite a deal. It was used once for a few hours to watch the game. This is also why Best Buy has a restocking fee on TVs. (Granted this may have changed since my time working there)
