Looks like you're right. So then what if any is the conflict with the bed lights? I would love to get the OEM kit instead of Pop 'n Lock. Thanks.

That’s the question we’re still working on. It seems like it should work fine given all the evidence we’ve seen to this point but no one has installed it yet. I was hoping to install my kit last weekend but ran out of time. Hopefully I can get to it soon.

Excellent find with the manual once again. So this confirms what has been mentioned in the part number thread, that the 2020 is pre-wired for the new 2020+ bed lighting kit. That will be cake to install on a 2020, and I see nothing that would interfere with the remote tailgate lock.

I still have no idea why it says the bed lighting kit conflicts in the remote lock install guide. It must be specifically referring to 2019 since they use a different bed lighting kit than the 2020+? But then what about the older kit is a conflict?

It looks like the part number for the DC LB is PK3B6-35JL0
S for Short and L for Long I guess.

any thoughts to what the worst case scenario might be if someone was to try this '19 OEM pop n lock on a '16-'18; based on what's been mentioned it seems like a good chance it might work....looking for thoughts

Worst case scenario is that it wouldn't work. Follow through the instructions posted in here and if you can confirm that the grommet into the cab is available and the plugs that it ties into match the photos, then you could reduce some of the risk.

If you buy the kit, you could assemble everything out of the vehicle, and plug it in behind the kick panel to test if it functions. This way, if it doesn't work, you wouldn't have wasted a bunch of time routing wires.

I suppose this could be the worst case scenario though...

OP, you have the harness yet? Could you verify the fuse to connectors relation?

I finally installed the kit today. Works perfectly and the actuator is not nearly as loud as I’ve seen with some of the aftermarket kits. It sounds similar to the other OEM door locks, which is great. No real issues during install either. The instructions are spot on. The only slightly tricky part was running the wiring harness next to the exhaust because that area is not very accessible in some spots. It was difficult to position the 5 metal wire ties because of that! All in all this was an easy upgrade on a 2020 Tacoma.

One little tip. It’s touched on in the instructions briefly, but when applying the final wire ties under the end of the bed, make sure you wire tie the new bed harness to the camera harness only and not the body harness or truck. That way if you ever need to remove the tailgate it’s a simple matter of unplugging the two connectors (camera and remote tailgate lock) and the harnesses will come out together.

My 2020 came with the bed lighting kit. I installed the tailgate lock and have zero issues.

The Toyota OEM kit is really easy to do, plus it comes with the special fittings for the wire to pass thru the body of the truck into the tailgate. I would definitely recommend it.
