Tundra will be nicer on long trips with more power, Tacoma is better mpg. What do you like more? What's cheaper in terms of payments (or being paid off)? How does that affect what you pay in gas?

Many years ago, I had a really nice ‘07 Tundra Crew Max. I used it to tow dirt bikes (overkill) and a 35’ camp trailer. I also was commuting 25 miles each way. I loved the truck, but as you know, they are big ass trucks. So, we ended up selling our camp trailer. I didn’t want to sell the Tundra, so bought a new GTI to use for my commuter and I parked the Tundra. After having it sit for 6 months with almost no use, I sold it. I regretted selling it almost the instance I sold it. A few months after selling, I sold my GTI and got a new ‘14 Tacoma. I really liked the Tacoma, but missed the space of the Tundra. I had the Tacoma for a couple years until I finally gave in and bought a nice new ‘16 TRD Pro Tundra. Drove it for a couple years and then sold it and bought an ‘18 Ford Raptor. Fun truck to drive but the quality is bottom of the barrel. I didn’t keep it long (18 months) and now I’m back in a ‘20 Tacoma.

a lot of words but I guess the moral of the story is yes, I’ve been in your exact scenario a couple times. I have never regretted buying any of my Toyotas (during all this I also bought a new ‘16 4Runner I still have). I have always regretted selling them. If I were you, I’d keep the Tundra if you are at all not sure. If you get to where you are 100% done with the Tundra and want the Tacoma, then do it.

I sold my 2014 Tundra TRDOR CM and purchased my current 2018 Taco.

I miss the Tundra. My wife drives a Suburban, so we didn't NEED two large vehicles. The 14.3mpg average was my biggest complaint. I was also tired of owning a black truck and I wanted cement. I also work at a University with terrible parking options, and the Tacoma fits into tighter spots easier. Those were my reasons for swapping over to a Tacoma.

I miss the interior space and the overall driveability of the Tundra. These Tacomas are severely underpowered in low RPMs and I miss the torque of the 5.7L. Also, fitting two carseats without sacrificing legroom is a challenge in the Tacoma.

Also, I'm only getting 18-19mpg in my Tacoma. I only netted a 4.5mpg increase.

Wait for the 2021 Tundra specs to be released, hopefully in February 2020. Rumors are a turbo V6 or some sort of a gas/electric combo, with the 8 speed Land Cruiser transmission. The new drivetrain combo will be getting better fuel mileage.

Well Tundra is paid for. So that complicated things. I love my tundra I really do I just never haul anything that seems necessary for such a big truck. I basically drive it to work and when I go hunting. Otherwise we take my wife suv when we go anywhere as a family

In my opinion the small improvement in MPG is not worth the tradeoff in power.

My 2018 with 285/75's struggles to get 17mpg on a good day.
It's typically around 15/16mpg on my 24.1 mile daily, 1-way commute to work.

    Yeah, then there’s that too…

I’m handing mine down to which ever grandchild gets licensed or needs 4 wheel transportation first, with the understanding that when I need to haul anything with the truck, manuel labor comes with it too (HA!) and hopefully there will be no regrets this time.

Then there’s the thing about the inclement weather when a truck also shines and for that I think I should be able to borrow the boss’s 4R.

    Oooh logistics, logistics, tsk tsk.

Ha this is me exactly. The 5.0 v8/10 speed tranny is kinda overrated in my opinion. That and the god awful auto shutoff/on at stop lights and violent shaking that comes with it kill any enjoyment of the F150. I honestly have no problems with the Taco's engine power/transmission/gearing.
