Once you created the harness, at that point it was plug n play? You didnt have to cut into any OEM wires?

The Key is awesome, plus the DSP works pretty amazing in my experience. I will say that adapters and 6.5 or 6.75s will sound more accurate in the front doors, plus the Key should be able to control the smaller driver better. If you ever decide to change the 6x9s.

Yup. No cutting of the factory harness. Plugs right inline between stereo and speakers.

Do you remember what Metra harness part numbers you used?

    Write up by chance?

It uses the power to the radio for power. No separate power needs. You in essence stop using the radios amp and this one instead so you don't overload the stock wiring.

I followed this one. Has everything in it.

+1 on the kicker key amp! The reviews on it were a bit better than the alpine amp. I did the kicker key amp and kicker door speakers and added their hidden sub that fit perfect right under the driver seat. The passenger seat had some extra metal under it and wouldn’t fit under there but regardless I’m happy because my behind the seat cargo space is precious to me

    ok....

so i already have the subaru tweeters and the CS speakers in all 4 doors...

looks like i need to add the key and the hideaway....

i am still a little confused. so the hideaway will add extra power to all 4 speakers and the key sub?
i would have to make a harness of sorta to hook it all up? looks like the key will get mounted under the seat, what about the hideway?

You've got it backwards, the kicker key is the amp and the hideaway is the sub

still trying to understand it all... but it looks like replaces the power source for the door speakers.
what is powering the sub? the head unit still?

Bought an underseat 8" powered Sub and wired it to the rear speakers. No muss, no fuss!

I went with the Kicker AMP and Kicker plug and play Subaru Tweeters. Sound in the Tacoma is much better and was a fairly inexpensive upgrade.

@fiftyxp the key is on sale at crutchfield for $159.99, not a bad deal....I dunno what the price was on BF. It's also the same price at bestbuy.

Do you know with the Metra harnesses, you dont have to run a power wire from the battery?

Does this amp just splice into the head unit or?

Look for an amp that has Speaker Line Inputs. Then - you will need to source a Plug-N-Play harness.

I assume you're asking about the amp? If so yeah you wire it in between the stereo and speakers. And it's powered by the stereo power. Couple metra plugs and no cutting of factory wires.

I was thinking of doing this because I re-did all my factory speakers with the Rockford Fosgate Prime component set that has the inline crossovers. I’m not sure the OHM impedance would work, but this sounds like it could definitely make them sound a hell of a lot better. I like music like Tool and hard rock with well composed drum solos...blah blah....and the factory head unit doesn’t sound like it gives the new album quite the justice it deserves

Hey Op, I recently installed the Kicker Key Amp 180 and it is fantastic! There's a great writeup on it as well on this forum asking for wiring help. As long as you get the metra harnesses, you won't have to splice any factory wires at all. The other great thing is the amp can sit behind the headunit.

For the key amp you need battery power
