Do you plan on running an amp on these door speakers or just to a sub?

I would go with a 6.5" if you are adding a sub. If you are planning on amping the door speakers go with components. If not go with coaxials. Check out www.sonicelectronix.com and www.halfpricecaraudio.com I just ordered some kicker components from the latter and love the way they sound. Spent about $200 for amp and components.

Yeah. You can run components off of the HU but if you don't ever plan on adding an amp to the doors I would go with coaxial speakers and you should be good. Having a sub in there means you can turn the bass going to the doors down and let the sub play the low stuff.

Those would be great speakers but they will take up to70 watts RMS (constant power). I generally like to provide at least 1/2 if not 3/4 of the max RMS rated power to the speaker. Again you can power the components with the HU but I would recommend getting an amp later.

I wanted bass without losing space in the access portion of the cab so I put 6x9s in the doors. The JL VR series gives it the amount of bass I want so it's purpose has been accomplished. I had JL TR tweets but blew them one night camping, upgraded to Boston Acoustics and they are awesome.

Edit: I powered my speakers with a JL G4500 Amp that sits under my driver seat.

Well it's hard to pick one out for you. Everyones ears are different but a few of my favorite brands are the infinity, Focal, and now Kicker. Just look in the 6.5" section and read some of the reviews. It would be to your benefit to go to a best buy or somewhere like that and listen to a few; pick a set out; then get one the web and find them cheaper.

If I were you I would spend half of that money on a small amp and I think you would be happier than powering them with the HU alone. Just my .02

    I just got it!
    Dear everyone ever:

Don't waste your money buying expensive speakers if you have no intention of amping them. You're wasting your money.

Don't even waste your time buying crappy things, because car audio is a drug. Once you start, you can't stop. So you might as well get quality things to begin with so that later you don't have to replace the weak links in your system.

Don't even bother buying coaxial speakers for the front. Coaxial is good for the back, but you need atleast 1 set of components I think, because otherwise, you won't have any mid range frequency. You'll have stunning highs, and stunning lows from the sub, and at first, you will think wow. This sounds wicked. But if you hear someones system who's got a set of components, you'll realize that your system has NO love. It feels empty. It's almost depressing to listen to.

A friend of mine has a big 4 channel amp and 2 sets of coaxials that max at 300 W (A lot for speakers, if you didn't know.) And he's got a really nice sub and mono amp. But compared to my system, there is just no love, and he is jealous of me, and I spent less money than him. So there's that. Coaxial speakers just don't have enough surface area on the woofer to produce good low to mid range frequencies.

    Tweeters, Woofers, and Subwoofers.

This is just my opinion, I just lack the ability to talk in a way that doesn't make me seem like I think I'm a know-it-all. I can just get my point across easier this way, that's all.

    Have a swell evening.

If you have no intention of amping your speakers, you won't have to go as high as 200.

I have a set of Alpine Type R component 6.5's, which I got for 159.99 plus shipping. They are 110 RMS and 300 max watts I think? I dunno, google it if you want.

But even those are too much for my amp. And if you aren't even amping, then why spend 200?

Not saying I'm right, but definitely think about it.

    I didn't take it that way. :D
you made alot of good points. Only other option he could do if he's on a budget (who's not) is to step the sub down to some good coaxials in the back to try and fill in the lower frequencies. No it won't take the place of a sub but some people are happy with that setup.

Yes you will have mids and highs with that setup due to the woofers and tweeters of the components. 200 dollars will get you a nice set of components.

yes. If you amp the components and have a decent sub I think you will be very satisfied with the sound. If you are going for sound quality over decibels then I would get the components and an amp along with whatever HU you choose first. Then see what funds you have left for the sub and it's amp. It all goes back to you get what you pay for. You don't have to spend $200 on a set of components to have great sound you just have to find that middle ground.

    go completley opposite.

run coax speakers off the HU and run components off an amp. either way amplifying your speakers is a good idea
