Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

No harm in asking. Just never really needed one and no internet up here except satellite which is spotty in the snowy winters. Even phone service is spotty but job requires I have one.

 

Well bummer, ordered mine Oct-4, 2018 and got it a month ago. Guess I'll have to exchange it for a pre loaded one when Matt has time. Cant wait to experience what everyone is raving about.

You could always buy a cheap laptop, drive to a place with free wireless internet and get everything done. I helped a guy the other day over the phone who did this. He didn’t have home internet, so he drove to McDonald’s to use their free wireless internet to download OVTune’s flash manager, and techstream. After he got it all downloaded in the parking lot sitting in his truck, I talked him through the process of doing his TSB, and then flashing 2.0 on his truck.

 

I've thought about it if I have too. Nearest place with wifi is only about an hour away. Lol

 

I have a new handheld and was trying to do my initial pull of my factory tune and got error 10003. It seems like this is a known issue- is that the case? I opened a ticket with OVTune via Zendesk. I'd just like to know so that I dont mess with it until there is a fix. Any info will be appreciated.

Yes just wait until final 2.0 is released and handhelds should be ready to go when that happens. This is what i was told by zendesk reply

 

2018-2019 handhelds are still waiting for openflashtablet to figure out a way to make them work. If you go OVTune website you'll see the updated "new" description for the handhelds is 2016-17 only. I was told last week it would be this week from OpenFlash, and nothing yet.

 

I was going to wait but realized realistically, do I have the time and patience to learn to tune. I ended up just getting the flash. Plus did a search and ovtune mentioned open tuning will be available for both hand held and on program in the future.

 

@R242 thank you for the update. I wish that OVTune had let me know that there were issues when they sent me my registration key 3 days ago. I wasted a fair bit of time fooling with this today so I won't waste any more time until i see some news on their website.

Quick question. My wife bought me a new chrome book to replace my netbook. I know you can’t run Windows based programs on Chrome but are there any easy workarounds to get flash manager to work on it or should I just have her exchange it for a Windows based laptop?

 

This is super interesting and confusing as shit at the same time. my 17 sr5 Tacoma definitely searches for gears but never when I’m off road or in low 4x4. Sometimes I’ll hit the gas and it will take a second or two to go but once it goes it goes.. there have been a few times where that was a huge disadvantage and
Almost got me in some trouble but the truck eventually got me out of it. Scared my wife and I but it made it.. what’s better a super charger in my Tacoma or a OV tune. Ov tunes seem super complicated I’m in a area where not one mechanic has any clue what this is.

 

OVTune fixes the stupid trans syndrome. forced induction from anyone other than OV will give you more power but possibly amplify the stupid trans syndrome since no one seems to be addressing the trans tuning.
The best answer is to get a OVtune supercharger or turbo setup and you get the power PLUS the fixing of the trans stupidity

 

The handhelds don't need a registration key, he sent me one too. I've been dealing with this for 3 months now so I've figured it all out on my own. I would open a ticket at Openflashtablet, they will get you pointed in the right direction.

 

The flash manage only works on Windows. There are sometimes workarounds like using Wine on Linux but since this is using the USB port, emulation rarely works correctly.

I'm using a laptop I bought from Best buy for $110. It is a real piece of shit but works for this sort of thing.

 

Anyone try the 4:88 tune with 5:29 gears?

Picked up truck yesterday after having 5:29’s and 87 base tune installed. Thinking I should of went 91 performance but I’m wondering how the 4:88 tune would work with the 5:29 setup

 

If you have a registration that means you have a flash kit there is no issues with flash kits.

If you have a handheld you should not be sending us registration details. The instructions on my website have pictures based on what you purchased. I really hope it is more helpful now. OFT has a thorough knowledge base so you can get a lot of info there, so we linked it on our instructions, + the software.


Yes the error code 10003 still exists, OFT is actively working on it. They are almost done.
