This. I didnt really love my 3rd gen until I started offroading/camping/exploring with it. I still don't understand ads I see online of people selling their 4x4s saying "never offroaded" it's like dating a supermodel but never fucked her

The Tacoma's aren't the best commuter vehicle at all, but it shines offroad even bone stock

I definitely have and ive already took it on some terrain that required 4wd and the clearance, and while i had alot of fun doing it, it just didn't feel right to do it with a 40k truck and i turned down the idea of exploring up some trails because the bushes would pinstrip and scratch the paint up real good. another reason i should've gotten a beater truck and kept my meticulously maintained car. i just get sadder thinking about it over an over. not to mention when I return to civilization and paved roads the anxiety sets back in

Sold: '19 TRD OR - It will always be in my heart.
If it's giving you that much anxiety, then trade it in. I'm just worried that you're going to make another mistake by being this anxious\desperate to sell. I've been there, I went through a of car switching binge for a few years. And it also started when I went from a nimble manual car to a heavier auto car. So I stared to find all sorts of issues with the auto car. I was so desperate to get rid of it, that I ended up just buying whatever just to move on. Only to start the process over again.

I'm very lucky that I was able to keep my previous car, when I bought the Tacoma. I finally realized that I'm meant to be "polyAutomus".

I went through this a few years ago, when I traded my Mustang for a more practical and fuel efficient car, a Mazda6. I regretted it immensely and almost immediately even though I saved a ton of money on gas and insurance. I traded the Mazda in for a Subaru Outback at at pretty substantial loss because I wanted the traction of AWD or 4wd in Alaska, but I hated the Subaru. I traded it in for my Tacoma and couldn’t be happier.

You spend an hour a day or more in your car. I spend almost 3 hours in mine. Driving something I like was worth the financial loss to me.

As far as scratching it, meh it’s a truck. Builds character! Drive it like you love it.

If you dont like how it drives... try a few minor mods.
Ive had great luck with the ECT always on mod and a Pedal Commander.
Makes the truck feel completely different.
I was completely disappointed and irritated with how mine drove until installing these mods.

Keep your truck. A few months down the road you'll likely have less buyer's remorse and feel better about your purchase. The MPG is not the best, but its livable with current fuel prices. Its a great truck IMO.
