Used hitch receivers for first gen taco ever show up in your searches? I'm looking for a used one if you notice one

They also sell Motorcraft filters which have the same PN with a W postfix... I'm a little wary because if they were identical why would it need a differentiating part number?

The W is likely for identifying and inventory or counting purposes. Possibly different but I would think not likely different.
Actually I'll bet it's already been dissected and analyzed over at BITOG forums

It would be interesting to cut open different to see if the internals are like some of the others. There was some guy that cut open a bunch of filters and found the Walmart Supertech brand of filter had the same internals as some of the other brands that sold for much more. I think it turned out that Champion labs was building them all. I read where Champion labs was purchased by Valvoline. I think they are now all owned by "The Carlyle Group" https://www.carlyle.com/

Having some familiarity with the way that Walmart procurement works, I suspect the Toyota filter builder is already doing a large scale business with them. Most likely they entered into an agreement to supply WM with x,xxx,xxx number filters packaged as Toyota. The filter builder licensed the use of Toyota packaging and design for the production runs that would be sold at Walmart. Toyota gets an amount of brand recognition benefit from having their "red box" product name on the shelf at WM whether the person who sees the product owns a Toyota or not. Ford, Chevy, and Dodge owners who are looking around the filter shelf at WH see original Toyota filters and start to warm up to the Toyota brand like they do by seeing their own domestic brand. Toyota gets to buy filters for a lower cost due to the across the board volume increase.

From personally knowing some WM buyers, I would be surprised that WM approached Toyota about selling their filters. Also, keep in mind there are some product manufacturers that sell to WM at their manufacturing cost or below just to get the brand recognition from having their product on the shelves. In properly managed cases, everybody wins.

 

Man all this talk on oil and I'm at 7k on my current OCI. I gotta go get a jug of Mobil1 at 'la warmart guey'.

 

Lol, I took my last oil change out to 9,600 miles on Shell Rotella T6. My '04 Ram hemi went to 12,000 miles, same oil. Just use the longer filters.

 

you're a baller my man. Longest I've taken it was 9k and that was Mobil1 but not the extended change one, the EP stuff. I'm tempted to run the EP one to 15k and test and analyze it after. My 9k oil analysis one, the TBN(protection package stuff) was running low but wasn't depleted by a long ways

 

With the Ram, I was sending my samples out to Blackstone labs. They kept having me run it out longer and longer since the oil still had life. At 12k miles, that's about a once a year change so I just stick with that now.

 

My corolla gets 20k oci with Mobil one extended. Top off at 10k with 1 quart (burns a little). It’s had that diet for 800k miles. No issues

The Tacoma was 15k intervals. Inside of that engine was spotless.

 

I feel ya, most folks really struggle accepting how ridiculous it really is to be changing oil at 3k miles, hell even 5k miles is way more than it needs. All new manufacturers recommendations I've seen in last couple few years have spec'ed OCI at 7500 miles
I know a guy that owns an oil lab and he let's me run my stuff. Hella hella cool lab

 

Top end of the Tacoma's engine looked great when I recently did the valve cover gaskets. But, I did notice a lot of sludge buildup on the drain plug when I changed the oil after. Think I might need to drop the pan next oil change and clean it out and inspect the bottom end. No problems otherwise, the engine runs super smooth and solid.

 

My Avalon is every 5k ish. But that’s because it takes me a year to get that many miles! Lol. Oil lasts way longer than it use to. Hell in the 60s some fords were 7500 oci from the factory

 

Oh shit, you got the hookup then! I really should send out a sample from the Tacoma next time around since I don't know the history beyond the previous owner and I've only had it for the last 14k miles.

 

Really? I memba you mentioned longer OCI, so I knew you knew what was up but didn't realize you had that much data or real life exp with it. That's freaking awesome man! 20k!! I'm gonna go 15k then with that EP Mobil1 and then I'll run it through the lab and let you guys know here how it tested.
