Bilstein 6112

Yeah, man. No idea with the 3rd Gen. Best advice I can give is to pull a measurement from the top of your tire to the bottom of the fender on the rear, then the front. Whatever the difference is, that's what amount of lift you want in the front. There's a chart on Headstrong's website that breaks down what notch you need for "x" amount of lift. You'll have your answer.

 

How does it ride on 6/5? I'm worried about the ride quality with that amount of preload because I do a lot of off roading and love high speed open desert

 

Then do 5/4

 

I’m not sure honestly but I know a ton of people run that and I haven’t seen many complaints.

 

Had 6112's installed at 6/5 with 5160's and a custom 1" Deaver pack in back. I'm around 1/4" or a touch more high in front at the moment, and plan to drop to 5/4 as I'd prefer to be level or with a slight rake. But I have sliders showing up next week and may see if the extra weight makes any difference before tweaking.

I wouldn't call the ride harsh by any means- everything stiffened up in a good way, nice and tight. If I drop to 5/4, I'll report back on wether ride quality is considerably different.

 

Oh- and I did go with Camburg UCA's (you convinced me- hopefully I'm mostly future proof though I might not have gone up enough in rear with the Deavers)- but the UCA's gave me high caster and no more rubbing on 265/75 (with -25mm offset.) Also had some Durobumps thrown on there for good measure. Sheesh- are those things beefy.

 

Just picked up Bilstein 6112 w/OME 888 and Bilstein 5100 extended w/Dakar HD leaf pack. Nothing on the front, 400lb constant load in the back. Anxious to get it installed. Hope it works out ok, I keep reading about nightmarish experiences with lifts, this is my first lift and tacoma.

Bro lean - get aftermarket bumper or 5/4
Too much rake - remove 3rd leaf
Squeaky - live with it
Vibration - ECGS bushing

I think I’ve been reading too much TWand getting paranoid.

 

I thought OME 888 coils aren’t compatible with 6112, they don’t fit from my understanding.

 

my bad, I confused the 2. It’s whatever coils the 6112 comes with.

 

They come with 600 lb coils but can be upgraded to 650 bilstein coils for more weight.

 

that’s what it is. I knew it was somewhere from 590-600lbs, where I got confused with the OME coils. Too much TW reading/researching.

just need to find a reasonably priced installer in my area

Just as an FYI and to add my experience to the thread that has helped me so much.

I gained approx 1 3/8 - 1 1/2 inches with my swap (although it probably hasn’t fully settled yet), using 650 lb coils on the 4/3 setting.
That’s with full cbi aluminum bumper, 55lb smittybilt winch, ifs and mid aluminum skids and beefy steel sliders.

It rides perfectly for what I was looking for - less dive on braking and minimal lean in corners compared with the stock OR suspension. Still very comfortable on road - I haven’t taken it off road yet.

I did install icon sway bar spacers (and kept my sway bar attached obviously) although didn’t notice any rubbing prior to doing so. They may be optional or only needed with more articulation than I’ve put it through so far.

Hope that helps those in a similar situation.

 

If i add a 1/2in shim to the rear do you guys think it would affect ride quality on or offroad? (something like this )

My setup would be 6112 in front on notch 4/5 with 5160 in the rear and the shim on the stock leaf pack

 

I have the same one for the drivers side dakar leaf pack to fix the lean. I highly recommend it. It evened my truck completely and is pretty easy to put in......I did it the the pack already on the truck. I torqued my pin to 55ft lbs. There was zero difference offroad. Put everything on your truck first and let it settle. After a couple of weeks, if you have a noticeable lean on the driver's side, then do it.

I am actually surprised not a lot of people have done it. I searched for a while and only a couple of people said that they were looking at it but no one that had experience with it. After I put it in, I never looked back. Evened me right up without any regrets. I have the long bed so I don't know if short beds have any issues.

 

I've got a 3/8" spacer up front to help with the lean, but sounds like a shim on the rear could help out even more.

I'm guessing just unbolt U-Bolts, C-Clamp the leaf pack, remove center pin, install shim/new pin, put everything back together, right?

 

Yup....just that. Just make sure you retorque your u bolts in about a week. You have the flip kit?
