There was a field that didnt get picked one year near a stand on our property and I saw deer our there nearly every time I went (from thanksgiving on). The reason I think you dont see them eat dried beans in the fall is because there is so much else for them to eat on, honey sucked, persimmons, maybe acorns etc and you will also see them come back a week or two after harvest because there will be sprouts of beans that were dropped that come up if there is any moisture around so the cycle begins again until a good frost anyway

I used to plant about an acre of soybeans just to deer hunt in a secluded area, I agree with what you said 100%. Only thing I can figure is they don’t like getting the bean out of the hull.

Good point. Acorns falling does tend to keep them in the woods the same time of year the beans are ready to be harvested.

I was watching a hunting show a while back and the host was talking about acorns and the different types. Around here we have several different types of oaks that drop acorns. He said you may be hunting a type of acorn but the deer may prefer the taste of another acorn and not come to yours or walk by them going to what they prefer first. He said after what they like is gone they will go to the others. I never thought about it before hearing him say it.

Around here white oak is #1 as far as deer are concerned. Pretty easy to identify, soft, light colored bark and rounded leaves.

White oak acorns have less tanic (sp?) acid than red oak acorns, making them "sweeter" or less bitter. Like having dessert before dinner. However, red oak acorns provide better nutrition overall - according to wildlife biologists I know.

My Dad shot him this morning about 6:40am. Big one for the area we hunt in SW Missouri.

Shot him at 178 yards out of my blind. That I wasn’t in this morning because my wife had a doctors appointment. Dad said biggest deer rack and body wise he has ever shot.

We were meeting some friends for lunch after church yesterday and had a little time to kill so we went in one of those stores that has clothes for misfits, you know the tag says large but one sleeve goes on a medium shirt and the other one goes on an extra large shirt.

They had some camouflage Carhartt coats for a good price.

I’ve been using this what used to be brown one for an overcoat for 16 years and it’s so faded I been worried about being shot walking in and out so I went and picked one of the camo ones up. Got an extra large for me so it’ll fit over all my clothes and got my wife a large, shhhhh don’t tell her she doesn’t know it.

Now if I can just shoot as many deer in the camo one as I have in the faded one hunting will be good!

The older and broke in a cathartt gets the more comfortable they are. Especially the bib overalls.

Yeah I know, I been looking at camo coats for several years now just haven't bought one. I know where we hunt is private but that don't mean someone else isn't sneaking around.
