@R242 Thanks again and will do.
@OVTune Thanks for the update- I have the handheld but I thought that I needed the reg code for the flash manager app.

I did read and follow the instructions on the Openflashtablet site, including a couple of troubleshooting tips. I'll open a ticket with them so that I get an update when this issue has been fixed.

    Thanks

I would’ve done the 4.88 tune from the start. Why use a stock geared tune that’s farther on the shift points than the 4.88 one? I run the 4.88 tune and it would make sense until the 5.29 comes out. If you want some fun try the 91 octane performance tune (with more aggressive tip-in), otherwise the 87 octane will likely net you the best mpgs if you care about that

Do the 4.88 tunes hold gear longer, shifts at higher rpm, than the stock gear tunes?

So I wanted to hold off on feedback until I got some mileage on it...in general everything in 2.0 (91 tune) has been fantastic my only complaint, and frankly kind of a big one for me considering I am either going up serious mtn canyons or down them is the hunting for gears at around 40 or so seems to have gotten worse. Pardon my non car language here...but it will seem to rev like hell shift up asap then almost immediately down shift again. It naturally makes you feel like you have to charge the gas pedal to push through this or the previous just repeats. I have no clue if that is by design but it seems weird and feels weird. Anyone else live at high altitude/mtns experience this? Not sure if it matters but I am at ~7-9k feet almost always. Down in the front range flats it seems like butter.

Im on the same tune and prefer it over any of the others. Seems the pedal is more predictable all around.

Mine drives weird in the hills when im doing 65-68 mph. I think this tune is great for flatlanders but the shifting isn't optimized for mtn driving. I'm really looking forward to the future release where we can edit our own shift tables, then everyone will be happy!

Well...they are tuned for the fact the 4.88 gears shift earlier, so technically if logic serves right the tuna he would adjust the shift point, but anyone who knows can correct me

Can someone cliff note this for me?

    - Recived my HH almost 2 months ago after Matt asked me via email the year & engine/transmission type of my vehicle.
    - I have a 2018/3.5L/Auto, confirmed by Matt
    - Now, upon power up, but NOT plugged into the vehicle, blank screen.

Is my HH the issue and needs to be swapped for the correct rev or the SW from OpenFlash will patch it right up? There seems to be alot going on and even more so in this thread with lots of branches in the way of topics.

I see now there is a classification of 2016-2017 then past that something isn't working to spec. If I understand correctly, I will still keep my brand new HH in it's box until there is a protocol/software fix? I mean, I have not plugged into the ODBII so not sure if blank screen is a factor of THAT or not, and if it isn't, there is another issue in that I can't do anything with respects to flashing my 18 just yet?

Can someone briefly tell me what is my next step based on the points above? What am I waiting for to happen - if YOU had this '18 Taco and HH...little lost...very lost. No time to read this thread from where it starts addressing the HH. I already tried and got what I got from what you can tell. I'm patient, but I don't have much time lately to follow anything but solid, written instructions.

And for the record, if an email blast went out, I did not get it...I'll check junk/spam when I get a moment...

What's the process for this setup? Backup/Read my OEM ECU (or does it do it automatically) then write an OVT flash file back into it? Which I don't even know how to load it into my HH either (but does it matter, '18's don't work?)

My head is starting to hurt.

    Hi @N2DesignsInc -

OVTune's message on Nov 15 announced via facebook:

"Hello everone, as our first day with our products back online we have a very high call volume.
    to answer common questions:
    - Flash kit is for both AT and Manual transmission Tacomas
    - Handhelds for the 3.5L only support 16/17. 18+ coming before the end of the month for full support"

So, based on that and tons of other messages in this thread and others about HH issues if I were you I would leave the HH in the box until @OVTune puts out the update he mentioned above that should add 18+ support to the HH.

Others may have more context since I do not own a HH. I ordered the flash kit but it has not arrived yet. :notsure:

Good luck with getting the HH up and running.

    Thanks!

Well it's in the box for sure because I can't do much with it...but this still leaves me with the question of, is it going to need a HH hardware swap/exchange for an '18+, or is it a HH firmware flash that would resolve it...in which case is the OpenFlash the software to do this firmware flash for the HH before the OVT tune flash for the vehicle can be done? , or is OpenFlash related to tune files only? Are we going to get access to be able to flash the HH ourselves to bring it up to '18+ compatibility or will it have to go back/be exchanged for something pre-loaded from OVT for an 18'+? We would need the HH devices software to do a firmware upgrade (not tune related) if that's what's needed and if that is the remedy, is the 3rd party software company that wrote the HH protocol/firmware going to distribute their proprietary software so we can re-flash the HH as well as provide the firmware file for the HH to operate? I might be too Computer Science/Programmer state of mind so forgive me if this doesn't make sense to some. I know Mat will get it though, hopefully @OVTune can chime in?
