Plans for the build this winter:

    * Bonzen solid motor mounts
    * Atlas 4 speed, still undecided on gearing but currently thinking 2.72, 3.8, 10.3
    * Tranny crossmember delete and tuck
    * New body mounts, really stuck on what to do here as no one makes a kit and I don't really want to fab new mounts all the way around. I need to pull them out and do some measuring to see if any of the generic Energy Suspension bushings will work
    * Melt in the LCA gussets I've had forever, and new bushings. Generic front end maintenance.
    * Fix rear air locker, maybe with the new 6 mm line, get it to @thefatkid for new seals and a once through.
    * Storage solution. After pulling the box for baby seats I need to come up with something new, hopefully with a fridge.

Going to be a busy winter but finally having a dd will make it possible to keep this bitch on blocks in the garage all winter and get some shit done.

Yep, got another on the way in June! Gonna have to pack some trips in during the spring as I'll be out of commission for the summer most likely, though I hope to do some trips with Holden and leave Cat with the new baby. That's my idea anyway lol.

    Well, congrats then!

When you can get away for some wheeling/camping/fishing/biking let me know.

When there's an unlimited supply nearby I don't need to worry about rationing it. :luvya:

Congrats! Should be fun packing these vehicles with enough stuff for 4 people for a week.

I roll with a 2nd 4runner when they all go. Generally easy trails/road when the whole family goes though.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
Wheeling with 2 is easy. I took wife plus 4 kids on my last few adventures. Had half of 3rd row down was enough space for coolers. Used roof rack plus a hitch tray to get everything else there and then dumped it all at a base camp so we could do some trails. (Only easy trails of course). I'm thinking about trailers. Got 5 kids now so every single seat is filled and no interior cargo space.

It's doable in a 4th gen. I've been able to stuff myself, the wife, my two boys (now 7 and 11), and our 85 lb dog in the 4Runner with all the gear we need for 7-10 trips. I had to be creative with rear cargo and rack space and be more selective with what we can bring. It may not be an Instagram-worthy setup, but it has proven to be effective and it gets my boys out so they aren't glued to screens. You may not need to bail on the 4Runner yet, unless you are itching for a new project.

    Congrats on the second child!

    Thanks!

I’ll figure it out as it comes, I thought the rtt would be the solution, but think I will get a better use of space with a ground tent and using the rack for other stuff. Still have awhile to get to that point though, so I’ll keep building it with space savings in mind. Not really interested in a trailer as a primary option, yet, we go too many places a trailer wouldn’t and mileage is bad enough already.

I couldn't stand wheeling with the RTT. The extra weight was very noticeable. I still carry a little gear up there that comes to about 1/3rd of what the tent weighed. A 4 person tent is a tank. When solo multi day trails/camp moves I have a ground tent/cot tent. Family or base camping I have a trailer.

I was able to get almost 15mpg towing this Fleetwood Cobalt to RT this fall. The 4speed made the passes a chore as I needed a gear between 2nd and 3rd to roll up easier. Would have to drop down to 50mph as it wouldn't hold 3rd and didn't want to stay so close to redline the whole trip up. I don't have it built to run down a trail yet, even once built more it would basically once be for low level stuff like white rim. It only weighs 1klbs.

I think about a Tacoma switch on occasion though :anonymous:

Yeah, not a huge fan of the RTT so far, between the weight, the not dramatic reduction in setup/teardown time and the drag up top. Something like the iKamper might be an improvement, but is still pretty heavy. I feel ya on the 2nd/3rd, its a bitch. I think I want to go to 5.29s w/35s and it would be about right, I put my 295s back on this fall and it was night and day difference in holding gear and acceleration.
