Guys wondering what might be the best route to take. What makes the best sense from a reliability and trade in value stand point. And what make sense financially. I have a 2012 DCSB TRD Sport with 53,000 miles. I bought her new, drive her 7 days a week, about 7,000 miles/year. It's paid for and the truck has been solid only costing me routine maintenance and a battery in 8 years. (Not counting the mods).
Now I know I'll always have a Tacoma. But should I keep this one till I croak? I'm 54 now and if I keep it till I'm 80 the truck would be like 34 years old. And based on current driving have approximately 240,000 miles on it. It has a clean CarFax and the frame looks new with only what looks like a little "rust dust" on the leaf packs. Do I keep her? Or do I trade for a newer model while she still has very good trade in value? And If I do trade what would you suggest?
2019 as they are now marked down? Wait later into next year and go for a 2020? or wait 4 years or so for the Gen 4's? A 19 or 2020 would take the age down from 34 years to about 25-26 years. A gen 4 to a little over 20 years. I'll post a couple pic of her, All were taken in the last 30 days. Like I said she's paid for but a reasonable new payment is not a problem.
What makes sense to you guys? Poll added, comments welcome. Like I had to ask....

Keep it. It will always be worth money and a desired model. The longer you keep it the less you'll lose and the more you'll gain. 240K miles and it should still be running like a top as long as it's maintained. The resale value is only going to go down so far and then will stay basically the same for decades.

Not real sure how on earth people know how long third gens will or won't last. Not real sure how people expect 4th gens to be "better" before they are even announced. You've got a nice truck. You don't seem to like third gens. Keep what you have.

If you're lucky enough to make it to 80, you wont give a crap how old your truck is. A 2nd gen that clean is a keeper.

The 3rd gens are nice trucks. I really don't prefer any of them stock 2nd or 3rd gens. They all look better with a small lift and a little larger tire/wheel. And I do consider the electronics on the newer cars even from Toyota to possibly problematic at 10+ years of age.

Well the electronics are only going to become more pervasive as time goes on. Your truck is in good shape, it meets your needs, and you like it. It’s probably paid for as well. You should keep it.

Find an ‘80’s with a 22r, that will last you another 30 years. No electronic shit to fail.

Keep it, it looks like it just came off the showroom floor.

If you trade and get a new truck, what do you have? A truck which
just came off the showroom floor and now you have a monthly payment years in the making. This time of year there is always some kind of
discount since it is the end of the model run with the next year's truck available to buy. Next year at this time you will be
able to say the same thing, "I can get a discount."

The monthly payment for a new truck, put that money in the bank each month and don't spend it. Pay yourself and not the bank! It's not a 30 year old truck yet.

Drive what you have and enjoy it!!

That's one thing I like about this truck. Only real electronics I can think of is the engine ECM and the stability control /anti lock brakes system.
There are electrical systems parts (windows, cruise, fuel system etc. but theses these are the only electronic systems I can think of.

Keeping what you have is always gonna be smarter (financially) than trading in for something newer. If you like your truck and don't need any of the newer features, keep it till it rots

Keep it I regret getting rid of my 2015 on a reoccurring basis and trying to find one or a clean unmolested one is hard these days and expensive. And rumor has it the 4th gen will be here in 2022-23 I'd at least wait till then and see where Toyota takes the platform. Truck looks great!

Electronic "shit" is a LOT less likely to fail than anything mechanical.

I mean remember when you could get 20 miles into the bush and lose your points? Maybe you can fix it, if you have tools and know what you're doing, or maybe the spring broke and you're screwed.

This truck does serve my purposes. And I really don't need any of the newer features. The Wife's Lexus RX450 does have 3D camera, blind spot monitoring and back up warning which are pretty sweet. I could care less about radar cruise and lane assist as I can do my own driving with regular cruise.
