Sounds like you are happy with your truck. Plus some of the newer features can always be added aftermarket. Back up camera, infotainment with apple carplay, android auto, etc.

Agree 100% on electronic ignition, fuel injection etc. I think the book is still out on infotainment systems, radar cruise those types of systems

Well, considering that full scope of functionality on the "pre electronic" infotainment system consisted of a stick you use to hit whoever was sitting in the back seat until they sing for you.... I'd say that you're probably better off until it fails, and then no worse off.

Came from the factory with a backup camera in the rear view mirror.
And Android Auto is via a Pioneer 2400NEX driving 2 Rockford Fosgate P400's through 8 JBL's and a 12" sub.

I still regret (15 years ago) selling my '86 pickup w/ 330k miles on it.

Does it not snow in Tennessee? Can't imagine that there would be much left of any truck after that much time in a place it snows (salt).

If your lifestyle requires a pickup truck, and you currently own one of the best midsize pickups ever made... run it till those fancy aftermarket wheels fall off.

My lifestyle doesn't necessarily require a pickup. I doubt I've had anything in the bed in 2019. Probably haven't hauled anything in it more than 3 or 4 times period. I was raised in the mountains of NC where everyone had a truck. I've almost always had a truck. I love having a truck, I love driving a truck. And my truck of choice is a Tacoma.

Most of that mileage was in Louisiana and Texas. The original muffler finally rusted a couple of years before I sold it. Other than that, there was very little rust.

One thing I have thought about. Is will the 4th gen be an I4 turbo? 20+ years/300K of life? :notsure:
Guess we have to wait and see on both.

A 34 yr old truck is sexy in my opinion. I can only hope I can keep mine for that long.

Of course a guy who drives a 1985 (before the nameplate Tacoma even existed) would say keep it. That truck looks awesome.

Looking at your pictures it looks like you upgraded the stereo, that would be my biggest decision maker. I drive a new 2019 while my 09 was getting the frame replaced and there wasn’t a single thing I missed when I got my 09 back. I personally would keep yours until it won’t run and you can’t fix it,

LOL tell that to the poor souls who have early C5 corvettes. Their ABS computers are failing and are no longer available and not serviceable. Electronics fail all the time but are not always repairable.

Came here expecting to see a 1989 tacoma.

I voted to keep it, but I totally understand wanting new stuff.

Keep it, that’s why I bought mine in the first place. Told my wife when I bought my 06 new it was going to be my retirement vehicle. Wasn’t expecting the frame recall but in the end that was a bonus. I have a 14yr old rust free vehicle that’s about to hit 50k miles soon that looks new. The only issue I have now is not being able to drive it since the wife has taken a shine to it.

I'm impressed. Not necessarily with the truck, but rather your ability to think that far ahead. I don't even know what I'm having for dinner tonight.

I say, rider her until she dies. By that time, we'll all just pay a service fee for shared automated cars that are controlled by an app on your phone.

The fact that your asking about this seems to say you don’t want to replace it.
