No good strategy for street parking. I street parked in Lincoln Park Chicago for four years. Never broken into (good side of town), but you have to expect a little contact in a competitive parking situation. I was never keyed or saw any intentional damage. There are some bumper skirts you can strap on when you park, have not seen them for trucks but have not looked either.

Damn that's gonna be a total loss! Jk hey OP don't worry, that is the first of many scratches, it's a truck. Also these trucks come with very thin clear coat, scratches easily.

I realize there's a lot of trucks on here that go off roading and have several scratches....but you know, the first scratch on a new car is always the worst.

I'd more understand if someone hit it trying to parallel park, it's scary watching people park, but some of the responses here sound more accurate that it was someone ignorantly walking/riding by. Our company Sienna's have been broken into about 3 times, now that I have my own car I'm scared to keep anything in it! I'll take the scratches over those bumper guards, those things are hideous! haha. I have thought about orange cones like the construction workers. Do you still live in the Chicago area? I think I've only seen two 3rd gens with mods.

I have similar scratches from driving through alder thickets. Weird.

Just because it's a TRUCK doesn't mean it has to look like sh_t. Believe it or not, some of us actually care what we drive and spend our hard earned money looks like.

It doesn't look like someone hit it with a car since it is missing the scuff marks and burnt paint that usually goes along with being brushed. I tend to agree with those above, likely either a bicycle or someone has tried to key you discretely and didn't continue down the rest of the truck. They got you up pretty high since it is above the headlights.

You can try going through insurance to claim it, but that might shoot your premiums through the roof too. It sucks.

Are you semi handy at all? If so you can try fixing it yourself. If you have a buffer I would try using this guide to repair minor car scratches. It's fairly easy to do and you can't make it any worse (assuming you know how to use a buffer). It is hard to tell from the photos if the scratch is deep enough to need touch up paint.

You can try cleaning it up and pouring water down the scratch, if the scratch disappears it is likely only in the clear coat and the above guide should get you fixed up. If it requires touch up paint then I would follow this guide for fixing deep scratches and key marks.

I've used both methods for there respective damage (actually they are my guides).

Other option is to have a paint shop repaint that panel and fender flare. I've been there, it sucks. When my car was keyed (the one in the second guide) it was going to cost me well over 2 grand to repaint the damage as it was the whole side of the car. You are lucky in that respect - if you want to call it that lol.

If you opt to do it yourself and need any help along the way just shoot me a message.
