yes, that and a bad experience from a local top body shop guy,
lots of prep work is a must for UV protection
one other one i cannot remember
3 bad reviews is enough for me to stay far away from it

 

are you close to the Iowa border?

while you have that bed off it be very easy to blast all that off to the pure metal and etch it good
or were you already doing that?

you should get a more than a few more good years!

 

Frame generally isn't exposed to UV. They do make a top coat or you can use any other kind of spray paint to cover it. POR15 is pretty decent, when the right prep work is done. Just like any other surface finish out there.

Alright, so 4xinnovation started their sale this morning and I pulled the trigger on their swing out to weld on to my bumper only 5% off but whatever, saved money is saved money. It says 6-8 lead time. Im hoping I can find time between now and then to weld on my frame CBI reinforcements. Im wondering if a Lincoln 140 mig welder is enough power for both projects, anyone got any feed back from putting theirs frame reinforcements on? or with better welding knowledge

 

Dry drive shaft splines.

 

I did my frame reinforcements, built both bumpers and rach and rebuilt my swingout using my Hobart 140. I think it's comparable to the Lincoln 140. Get gas now if you don'e have it setup yet. Makes it all SO much easier and your welding will be better.

 

Someone else asked when I’d greased it last. Which was just 3-4 months ago at most. I’ll maybe shoot some more grease in there and try it

 

Any tips on doing a Center support bearing? do I actually need to drop the whole drive shaft out?

 

I didn’t, just took em apart at the bearing and did it under the truck.

 

nasty stuff is not for me, do you mean the smell?
the primer and stuff i am using does not have a weird smell just a solvent and drips stay on my skin for many many days

that FF is icky nasty stuff, and looking for something better already

 

It should take you 5 minutes to take the driveshaft off, and will make the job much easier.

Also, I'd recommend getting a new stake nut too.

That was me. You'll likely have to do more than just shoot it with grease into the zerk. Taking it apart and lubing the splines is probably what needs to be done. I'm due for the same.

Guess I need to check into it. Probably be like my leaking valve covers, due timing belt, busted cv and a bunch of other stuff and keep putting it off since I never have time to do anything to the truck.

 

I'm in the same position, with no garage to work in and snow is coming... CV boots, driveshaft slip joint, boxing frame, suspension upgrade, modifying hitch so 32" fits under the bed, bleed brakes, new plugs, air filter, rad cap .... the list goes on. At this point I just do what is most important until a trip is coming, then it becomes a priority to catch up.
