Finally got LASIK!!

i got my LASIK surgery done 4 hours ago and i can already see better. There is still pain but that will go away. After having classes since 2nd grade and contacts since 8th this is amazing. Cant wait for my eyes to completely heal and see perfect!

 

My wife has been wanting to do this for a while. Let us know what it is like when you are all healed.

 

Cool man,did you have to pay out of pocket or did you have some good insurance,my Eye Guy says about $1500 per eye but hed make me a better deal if I wished to do it

 

Most times you have to pay out of pocket since it's an elective procedure, can't speak for his insurance but I'd be surprised. I've been tossing around the idea for awhile. I've had glasses since 4th grade and contacts since I was about 16.

 

x2!! did you consider ICL's? im saving up to have my eyes corrected but im still looking into the different options. what made you go with lasik?

 

If your a candidate and got the cash for it Id do it in a heartbeat. My brother in law was as blind as a bat for years and he got a job that had insurance to cover it if he went to a certain Eye Group,his Vision has improved dramatically since,usually its a one shot deal have done once your good for life.

 

Yeah I've been kind looking into this too.
It sucks wearing contacts because you have to put them in and out, plus if you rub your eyes (I do a lot) they can fall out, I hate that.

How long was it? Did it hurt a lot?

What exactly do they do when you get lasik? I have heard about it a little bit but I really don't know what they even do.

 

I am wanting to become a wildland firefighter so contacts and dust dont mix to well. Im still under my parents insurance so they coved some plus there was a deal for $1000 off. My parents are super picky about what doctors we go to so my mom did research and found a doctor locally that is world renown and is on the top 15 lasik surgeons board or something like that. Hes done like 20,000 surgeries so far, he did some famous persons on monday and was on the news tuesday for how great a job the lady said he did. So i felt like i was in good hands even though it was going to cost $4,600. Financed with 0% interest it is 250 a month.

Today i walked in and they retested my eyes, gave me an adivan which did nothing, probably needed two. He numbed my eye that had the astigmatism and marked the axis. they layed my down in the surgery room, put a crap ton of drops in my eyes, then covered one eye and taped my eyelids open on the other (right). I decided to use the laser to cut the flap (he is one of 10 doctors that has the newest laser that cuts a completely clean flap with absolutely zero scaring. but its $350 per eye)

So i was told to look a little below this red dot in this machine and then i lost vision in that eye for about 5 seconds and then it came back suuuuper blury, he then brought me over to the other laser and told me to look at the read dot, i stared at it and hears a really loud pulsating electrical noise and then i smelled what smelled like burning hair. it stopped, they flushed my eye, then the doctor put the flap back over my eye and things got less blurry. They untaped my eye lids and did the same to the other eye. It was a super trippy experience.

The whole process took about 15 mins (most was prep work) the actual surgery was about 2.5 mins an eye. It didnt hurt to bad, just felt a lot of pressure and some stinging. And stressed, like i said they shouldve given me two adivan.

 

The whole going temporarily blind scares the piss out of me, that's why i won't do it.

 

Nice. I had RK done 17 years ago and I still see 20/25 in my 40's. Starting to need reading glasses though. Hope you heal up fast. Amazing what they can do now!

totally worth it. got it done about a year ago. took a total of 15 minutes once i got in the chair. the pain is pretty brutal at first, but it just stings more than anything. they gave me some drugs and i slept off the rest of the day and woke up feeling a lot better and things were immediately more clear, and after a few weeks or so, i couldn't tell i had had the surgery, other than better than 20/20 vision with no flippin' contacts!

I'm still leaning towards LASIK to correct my nearsightedness.

 

its only because they are lifting up a flap of your eye (forgot the name). totally worth it

 

Free unopened contacts. They are -2.00 -2.50 and I have 5 -1.75 they are soft air optics spherical.

 

I had laser done 4 years ago. It brought me to 20/15!!! Wish I would have done it a long time ago!!!! Good luck to you.

 

Had this done a few years ago. If your near the great lakes/niagra falls area, you can go into canada and have this done by a surgeon for under 750 per eye. Depends on your vision and stuff like that.

In and out in less than 20 mins. and that night we went and saw the falls. First time i was able to see anything without contacts/glasses in 20 years. Vision is still 20/15 4 years later.

 

The idea of lasik or any other procedure where lasers are shot in my eye or flaps are cut into my eye does not sound good. Plus as a rugby player i dont want to have to worry about the flap opening or anything like that. The ICL procedure takes ~20 per eye, they make 3, 1-5mm inscions, it is reversible, and depending on the lenses will protect from UV rays. The only downside is the cost, its usually more than lasik or pk. The procedures are almost identical to those of cataract surgeries, so these are proven methods.
