AFE Pro-Dry S; worth it?

Are an AFE pro-dry S air filters worth the buy?

 

Wondering the same. I've read that these sorts of aftermarket filters (especially if you also remove the secondary filter) can reduce the life of the MAF sensor among other things. Any mechanics out there who have studied this?

 

Its a "dry" filter so i dont know how it would reduce the life of the MAF. Now the "oil" filters on the other hand can do damage (or so i have read)

I have the Pro Dry S. Been running it for over a year now. It works for me and it actually cuts down on the cost of air filters in the long run. Since you wont be buying a new one all the time.

I run a TRD Oil type,never had any MAF problems at 100K miles,I do clean the MAF as basic maintainence but never threw a code light,big tip DONT OVER OIL

 

I have the Pro-Dry S...worth the money. Fuel economy increased about 2+ MPG.

 

I currently have the stock oil type filter as well. I am just looking for an economically feasible way to allow my engine to breathe better.

I have heard that the dry type allow for better air flow but I was not sure.

I don't want to replace one for another if not needed. However, I will replace the stock filter for a better option. From what I am gathering, there really isn't too much of a difference, as long as I maintain the current oil-type.

 

Do an Elbow Mod or Deck plate Mod for more air save some $$$. I just pulled out the Elbow piece that goes from the Fender well to the Air Box works good formy 3.4L more cool air. Do a search and you can find out how both are done.

 

Mush Mouse, I was actually just looking at some posts in regards to just that (i.e. deck plate). Seems like a good option and fairly simple to do!

I wouldn't mind blocking the silencers either to give it that deeper intake sound.

 

imo it's worth it. After a weekend of super dusty trails it's nice to be able to wash it. Oh and make sure to keep the stock filter so you can put it in there when you're washing/drying the afe.

 

I have the AFE Pro-Dry S drop in filter. I have had it for about A year now and love it . No more oily mess and I dont have to worry about my MAF.

 

Better fuel economy and a million mile warranty...so you save money in the long run. Oiled filters are out of date and unnecessary.

 

maf problems only stem from over oiled filters. no oil, no maf problems

 

even if you dont get anyy mpg out of it you have a filter for life.

 

in my humble opinion, the Pro dry S is the best filter on the market at this time.

I really like my Pro Dry. Works great and gave me an extra MPG. When I go offroading in dusty conditions I put my OEM filter back in though just to stay on the safe side.

 

Can I get one (cone type) to replace the POS K&N oily bugger?
