You can press the door button thingy with your finger to make it stop (without closing the door) but unfortunately no other way to turn that off.

For whatever reason, that doesn't seem to work on ACs.

I’m a newbie to this stuff and am confused on these cables you are buying from Amazon. It seems like the come with some sort of techstream software. Are you installing that? Or is it just a driver to get the cable to work? Was going to download TS from somebody on this thread but can’t decide what cable to get. Several that have been linked are saying unavailable

If you're planning to use Techstream, buy from this source Tactrix openport 2.0

    This ^^^^

After having some very limited success (worked a couple times), followed by unlimited failure (stopped working completely), with one of the the cheap $15 Chinese cables from Amazon, I broke down and bought the Tactrix cable, and it worked perfectly. The Tactrix is quite a bit more pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Last year a bought a Mini VCI adapter with a mini-disk containing Techstream that I installed without much issue. I had to have the PC reformatted and lost the installation. I'm trying to install this again and I'm just not able to install the cable drivers. I'm having a world of problems. That I've never seen before.

I'm seriously thinking about buying the Tactrix cable to get cable and drivers that work as a last resort.

If by reformatted you mean the OS was reinstalled, make sure you run Windows update before loading anything. Lots of SW won't load if Windows isn't up to date.

Try searching for the mini vci drivers on the web, if it worked good for you. A connection test will confirm if you found the right drivers.

You might try searching obdii360.com for them?

I never got that error, but do not connect to TiS. That is the subscription online component. You just want to stay offline and use TS for diagnostics, customizations, and TSB software. That stuff never requires a TiS connection.

The main thing is to be connected to the Taco when working with TS. Otherwise, you cannot get any windows other than the start screen and Ti$.

A little further. I think the problem is with the lack of correct drivers for the cable. I see references to XHORSE directories and software in installation guides. I don't have it on the installation disk. I can't seem to find a place to download in install just the drivers. The Amazon seller where I bought the cable is gone. I remember fussing around with some XHORSE directories on the first installation. But I can't figure out what I did to get it to work on the first time. I don't remember it being too bad. Not like this.

I'm about to go buy the Tactrix cable just to get drivers that work and "support" from a real company.

    upload_2020-2-15_8-38-12.jpg

The part that bugs me about this installation is that I do not have any XHORSE electronics software under c:\program files (x86) like referenced below.

This seems to be my hang up.

Honestly, the Tactrix adapter is pretty sweet, but I would reach out to folks in the OVT MT and MT Software Update threads. They might have the files that you need. I recall your adapter being discussed there.

Many years ago after a couple of our email accounts changed, we decided to go with a permanent address, like gmail. I used the associated free google drive storage to back up stuff like this, just in case things change. It keeps me from trying to remember where the disks are or where I DL'ed the stuff from. :D

I've got an external WD drive where I should have had an OS image backed up. I actually had the cable disk backed up and saved pages with reference notes. There was some detail that I cared for during that initial installation that made it work. Must have been dumb luck for sure. I thought it was too easy.

I should get with the times and setup a google drive for external storage instead of relying on physical media. I haven't heard of them being hacked yet. So I think I can warm up to the idea.

I don't mind paying for product if it comes with some type of support. Saves precious time that I never have enough of.
