    A few minor things...
    Hi All,

Not a "TACOMAS SUCK DEALERSHIPS SUCK BLAH BLAH" post.

Just letting you know I was quoted $910 for replacing the water pump, serpentine belt, and all gaskets/hardware on my 2016 v6 with 71k miles. I was driving to work without any issues, then started my truck after work and it sounded like there was a can of marbles bouncing around behind my fan. I let it run and the fan looked like it had 1/2" of play back and forth. No water was leaking at the time but my truck didn't heat up quickly on the drive to the dealership.

I looked online for a water pump replacement guide but couldn't find anything quickly, but I also have major renovations starting wednesday at the house so I needed my truck.

Push came to shove and I threw the ole' credit card down.

I think it came to $250 in parts and the rest labor. Pulling the engine?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. There is no way they are pulling the engine at that price. An engine removal would be in the thousands! Dealers are expensive!

If I had only seen this last night... Well it's rainy/snowy here. I don't mind working on suspension, control arms, bushings, electrical etc. but the only water pump I've ever done was on a 350 boat engine (fully exposed) and a 1995 jeep cherokee sport.

I bet I could have done this repair in an hour if I had known.

Another bad note is that no one locally had parts available, so I couldn't drive the truck home and I couldn't repair it until tomorrow at the earliest.

    Oh well!

I agree. I just read something that had mentioned you needed to pull or partially pull the engine to get at some manifold over the water pump. Oh well! Life goes on, luckily I'm not in a position where this is life changing event. Just have to stay home more often next month and not spend money!

Yeah if you had a spare car, time to wait for parts etc. seems like these things never wait for a weekend.

I can't believe this didn't turn into one of those "Toyota's water pumps are crap" threads like the battery threads do.

Another thread that makes me happy I forked out some money for an extended warranty, peace of mind for the next couple of years:p

I had my engine pulled when they repaired a faulty front engine cover gasket, and replaced every single gasket in the engine while it was out.

I’m happy to pay roughly $200 a year for insurance in case something goes:) to each their own, hopefully yours doesn’t fail after the factory warranty expires:thumbsup: especially with all the new electronic gadgets.

Things fail, its a machine. Ill just pony up the dough and get it fixed. Your post above is misleading since you had that work done under the original warranty that everyone gets. Right now you are paying 200 dollar + interest if you added it to what you financed for something that kicks in later.

which is what, about about $17 bucks a month? OMG!!!! :D

We pay monthly for ins. on dental, health, home, vehicles, etc. Do you not have insurance on anything, you just "wait for
it to happen and then pony up the cash at that time?"

    They didn't have any thoughts.

My thinking is I have 71k miles. The water pump runs the cooling fan, so it sorta does double duty all the time. Lots of stress on bearings.

I also tow a lot of different boat so I put a pretty good amount of load on the truck on a regular basis.

I think you answered my question. If you tow a lot, it stands to reason that the water pump would be doing extra duty. Do you have the towing package with the external transmission cooler?
