    I just bought a tractor this summer and have been spending a lot of time on www.tractorbynet.com they are like the tacoworld of tractors.

    I'd hop in the tractor and make sure all the functions are working, check for any obvious leaks or signs of heavy abuse. If they have any service records at all that is helpful.

    I wish I could be more helpful but I'm learning as I go. Maybe check the tractor forum or I think one like orangtractortalks.com for kubota only. They have to have a "what to look for" thread.

    @zachshere you can check a lot of it pretty easily. Obviously leaks are bad. Check for excessive play in the pivot points on the loader (if equipped) and 3 point setup. Cracked hoses, rust, etc. are usually fairly obvious too. Take the oil cap off while the tractor is running and see if it puffs air back out you; that'll tell you if there's blow-by. Same thing with the vent tube that usually sticks out under the engine compartment. If it's puffing smoke then the engine will be due for a rebuild fairly soon. Hydrostatic or shuttle/gear?
