I may be biased lol, but I speak from A LOT of knowledge and experience, both from my patients and my own hobbies and injuries!

I got a pair of Sleuth dlx that I wear when I commute. Super comfy and the legendary 5.10 grip. Look sweet too.

Actually pretty stoked it’s gym climbing season again. Boulder has a huge combing scene with great gyms. Climbing is an awesome way to keep fit and stay strong in the off season.

Holy shit man, you’ve just blown my mind. I am definitely going to do that!

Yeah, it is, but I’d always rather ride my bike if it’s nice enough to be outside and I have the time.

Shit, sorry man. That sucks. At least it’s in the winter. Heal up.

Went for a twilight after work session today. Rode the downhill in the dark (with lights). Such a different trail at night.
There’s also an abundance of mountain lions in the area. And I know what my cat does with lazer pointers. I’m guessing that’s what my headlamps looks like to them in the woods at night...

Yeah I'm at least happy it happened when "rainy season" starts here in San Diego so I'll take the time to heal up.
Also, just saw your Europe trip posts from earlier this year (i'm bored and going through every page of this) and WOW that looks amazing. Such a cool experience for you!

Might of saved your ass, I don't know. I've been going back and forth on protective gear. Part of me wants it for safety, the other part of me looks at some of these guys wearing it and thinks they look like tools wearing full motard gear. The shoulder pads and neck brace seem overkill in single track to me, but I've contemplated knee and elbow pads. I guess all it takes is one time and then you realize it's not overkill.

I don’t get in as many awesome rides as some of you do...on your lunch breaks!...but my kids and I ride to school every day I’m doing the parenting. Here’s a pic of their rides next to my 2004 Santa Cruz Chameleon that, like many a Tacoma, simply refuses to die. I don’t baby it. I've never even bled the brakes. I just replace tires and brake pads. It started as a single speed and then became a 2x9 and then a 3x9 bike packing rig. I routinely tow fifty pounds of kid attached to that back trailer, though now that my youngest is pedaling, he’s in it less and less.0DEC6113-2760-4215-A9F3-10A58AC14DCD.jpg 3CA736AA-9D5F-412E-AAFC-65C85EC9320D.jpg

Doesn't matter in the least, in the grand scheme of things. The problem is there are too many people "living their best life" and not enjoying the simple things that have lasting, long term effects.

You're doing the most important shit there is . . . Parenting! Too many people give their kids a bunch of shit and attempt to buy their affection. Those kids are going to remember those bike rides with their dad and spending time with him more than any stupid shit you buy them in the future. Long term, . . . I'd say you're probably having more awesome rides than most. I know your kids think it's awesome.

You're doing it right in my opinion. My rides are few and far between these days. I typically only get out on trail for a couple hours every other Sunday. I choose that schedule as I'd rather be spending any other free time I have with my kids and wife. My groms are only 3 and 1. I can only hope that they enjoy riding as much as it seems your little ones do.

Lunch rides are new for me. The city I live in is in the middle of a big walking/bike pathway development project, and they just finished a little 2ish mile trail section thats just down the rode from work. Its pretty basic and nothing to write home about, but as long as weather allows I run over and put in a few laps a couple days a week on my lunch break.
Well said. I’m still fairly new at the whole parenting thing. And while I’m not saying everything my wife and I do is right, we are definitely not emulating the modern main stream.

I tend to find myself avoiding wearing pads for the average ride. I do wear them when I go to Moab, Colorado, etc that are far chunker than northern Utah.

I do wear a neck brace when I go to the bike parks though. Trails and features made to go fast and go big don't end well if you don't stay on your bike.

I crashed pretty hard twice on the Whole Enchilada. I didn’t have pads on. I should get some. I had a bruised and bloody knee.

There's a few spots that will get ya if you aren't looking. Watched one cat commit to the diving board without knowing it. He didn't stick the landing.

Same, I don’t normally wear pads but when stuff gets rocky I wear knee pads, tired of bruised and bloody knees when I eat shit.

full face for sure at bike parks. I’ve always considered a back protector too. Not sure if they do anything.

Land back first in a rock garden and they def do. One of my buddies swears by his EVOC pack with a pad in it after a nasty scrap a few years ago in Colorado.

I know that part well! I always get lost and end up on the rider's right section of that stretch when the trail is clearly on the left edge. Easy to go OTB if you let your mind drift for a second.

Yeah I’d imagine they work the same as knee pads. Since i don’t wear a pack at bike parks it’s probably my worth the standalone back protector
