I would think it would be covered under the Powertrain Warranty

Anyone discover this after they hit the 60k warranty and had to pay the $2k repair fee? Only asking painfully as I think I’m in this boat.. pissed off that this was never noticed by techs during previous oil changes and services..

It was almost like they were waiting for the warranty to expire before sliding over the bill for the repair..

Yup that’s the same bull shit they gave me. Luckily I had the Platinum Extended Warranty. Took 6 days to get my truck back and the total bill was
That’s exactly what they are trying to do. From what I was told. If they admit it’s a problem they have to turn it into a TSB. And they will move heaven and earth to not let that happen. My good friend is a service manager and told me once the truck hits 60K miles it’s seamless to get the warranty claim approved. Before 60K he said not to hold my breath.

They had to take my entire engine out. :annoyed:

Damn.. anyone think there’s even a chance in trying to fight this with them? Assuming that they see my argument that it has been leaking even before the 60k mark.. probably not hey?
All you extended warranty people, I now envy you..

Someone on here went to like 6 different dealerships until someone maned up and took care of it. Could be worth a shot. That’s what I would do.

Yes, but you may need to make some noise, take up as high with TOYOTA as you can first and let them know if no one listens, you will take it to the NHTSA, and all other media outlets, and make good on it.
There's no acceptable outcome than for you to be made totally whole

I wish you the best of luck

Well good news. After many conversations, Toyota offered a one time goodwill of $800 towards the repair due to the circumstance and being outside of warranty. I’ll take what I can get!

Ah yeah he's smart, he knows all that hand tinkering of engine removal can bring him endless headaches that will cost him dearly more down the line.

    I'd do the same

If its covered under warranty I dont see the issue, maybe even a TSB, it clearly was a bad batch of covers, not a bad engine/truck. Mass production, new model year, these things happen.

100% agree. I haven’t wrenched on the taco yet but found this to be the case when ‘upgrading’ from a 100 to 200 series Land Cruiser

It's not that, the engine is solid and maybe the machine that tightened the fasteners just got out if whack or they loosened. But the thing is, the tech is going to be removing a lot of components refrigerant, lines coolant line, fuel etc, and some of those close to the firewall like the evaporator and heater core are very fragile.
One wrong tug and you'll have a leak down the line and its costly. Even under warranty you don't get compensated for the time spent at the stealership.
