Fog light aftermarket switch/ adding fog lights

Hey so I ended up just ordering a new harness and fog light assembly for the truck, installing said harness led to me discovering that the truck was prewired for the fogs. Only problem is a OEM switch is like 42$ and although that isn't a whole lot of money the idea of spending it when I have a perfectly good one kinda irks me. I pulled the male connections out from behind the little button cover on the dash and none of them fit the switch I have. Any way to splice something up to make it fit?
Also, I have those two old fog light housings and conveniently a unused wiring harness. Could I wire that up where all 4 fog lights would come on using the same switch? I figured you guys would know, thanks

 

if it was me, I'd just grab a $15 wireless relay off Amazon and be done. No screwing around with switches needed.

I like to use the factory connections when possible, by the time you splice in and solder and heat shrink correctly. The time you spent and materials you could have just plugged in the factory switch. Pretty much break even imo and there are plenty of companies not that make the harness with the factory connection on the fog harness so you can use the factory connection that’s there already.

 

Boy, I'd pop for the OEM switch and consider myself lucky.

The combination of wiring quality of the factory loom and the time required to bypass it makes the cost of the switch look like a bargain.

You could get connector 90980-11100 (male) and place the male terminals then mate to OEM connector (F16) then the wires from the male connector to your switch. Or get the 3M T-taps and go that route...

 

Just go for the factory switch and not worry about cutting/splicing/soldering. You can find used ones on ebay, or new on ebay or Amazon

Added bonus, the light color will match all your other switches/dash lights

Peace of mind has a price and in this case, it's not that high.

Aftermarket switches are internally connected differently than OEM fog switches. Here's a thread that goes into detail about the problems with trying to use an aftermarket switch with OEM wiring. Buy an OEM switch and plug it in. If you want to get something cool for your money, buy a FJ cruiser switch and a 6 terminal connector body. Depin the Tacoma connector, plug the 4 wires into the FJ connector, add 2 more wires, and you will end up with a fog switch with an indicator light that tells you when the fogs are on.
