I got an 05 Tacoma that’s taking forever to blow out hot air. The trucks thermostat takes about 2-5 minutes idling to heat up, but warm air won’t start blowing for 20-30 minutes. Even driving it’s taking the same amount of time. When it does start blowing warmer air it can’t be more than like 20° Celsius max. It’ll take 40 minutes for that air to be warm enough to actually defrost some of my windows lol coolant is good and the actual thermostat is heating up so not sure what else to check out

hmm...my first thought was coolant temp sensor cause that's what happened in my other car. I guess my next thought is heater core but I don't know if about them to say for sure.
    sub'd for more feedback

To get heat quicker, do not run the fan on high or use defrost mode. Use recirc mode. Defrost runs the a/c, and running the fan on high cools the heater core quicker than the engine can heat the coolant, especially at idle.

Having replaced at least a hundred heater cores in the past (non Tacomas) the design of our heater core is completely crap. The lines come out the side of the core versus the top and neither of those two lines are at the very top of the core. I'm positive there's an air pocket/bubble in these heater cores which would drastically reduce its ability to efficiently transfer heat out to the vents. I only envision two "fixes", a new line added to the top of the core to bleed out the air pocket (not practical) or using a lower heater fan speed. It's the design of the core.
