I've had Cooper Discoverer AT's for the last several winters and have liked them a lot. They don't do well in that deep wet snow that glazes over as soon as your tire spins (but most tires don't) but for commuting, ski mountains, and snowy forest roads they are solid.

So I bit the bullet and bought Blizzaks. I scored some stock TRD rims on Craigslist so I had them mounted on those so I can swap them out myself as needed. I'll report how they do after I've driven them on snow for a few months. Thanks to all of you who commented on this - It helped a lot with this decision.

They are Blizzak DM-V2. I stuck with stock 265/70 16 to allow as much clearance for chains as possible...I sure hope I don't have to chain these tires up.

You can only put chains on in the rear, I wouldn't attempt it in the front.

Really!? I actually figured that out when LBJ was President and my dad decided that if I was old enough to go skiing with him I was old enough to help put chains on. I also figured out that it is a PITA to get them on if the fender is stuffed full of tire and you can't reach over the tire to pull the chain over it.

I have Michelin ice tires and they also work in snow and ice very well.

I’ve been looking at some wildpeaks and this definitely makes me think they’re the way to go. I’m up at stevens pass or baker at least once a week so I want goo snow traction without sacrificing daily drivability.

Michelin ms winters are amazing. I ran them in Michigan/Wisconsin winters. They wear better than cooper discoverer winters. I run toyo at2’s and drove from humboldt to Klamath weekly, no issues. I’m Portland now and still like them.

I ran chains front and back before. Biggest issue will actually be clearance on the UCA if I recall correctly.
Low profile chains or certainly cables would be ok.

I lived in MT (foot of the rockies, so.. yeah snow) and now in Seattle area where slush is the biggest concern. I used to use KO2's but a buddy suggested I try the Wildpeaks and I have not gone back since. I have never had the Wildpeaks fail me and since BFG believes their KO2's come from gold I will never go back to them.

That is just my experience, yours might vary.

How do you like the Wildpeaks over the stock tires? I am not super impressed at all with the stock tires but I can't justify replacing them when they're essentially brand new.

    Lost somewhere in the PNW
    Vehicle:
Current vehicles: 2019 Rav4 Lunar Rock. 2018 TRD OR DCSB KD Max tuned. 2010 Tundra Limited Crew Max . 1991 4Runner Crawler. Ivan Stewart Edition
KD Max Tune, King 2.5 coil overs T.C. UCA's, Deaver leafs, 17x9 Black Rhyno Warlords, 33" Toyo M/T's, Metal Tech rear bumper, Westin HDX drop steps with Bullet Liner coating, K&N CAI, Baja Designs fog pods, Rigid Midnight addition 3" pod ditch lights. Cali Raised brackets and 32" behind the grill mounted light bar, Southern Style Offroad Lopro Stage II front bumper, Warn winch, FACTOR 55 Ultra Hook, FACTOR 55 Hawes Fairleed, full debadge, Cosmetic goodies such as 15% carbon tint, matte black in channel rain guards, interior LED's, Teton Workshop shift knob, Inferno vinyl detailing on the interior, Cali Raised multi rocker switch cubby insert with Mc Tuning LED switches and a few other mods I've probably left out.
Can't go wrong with Blizzaks or any other winter designated tire but driving in the snow, sleet, ice, slush and any other inclement weather is 90% driver. I run cyped Toyo M/T's mud tread and am an avid skier driving to the mountain 50+ times a season and have never had a problem..even in the worst of conditions. Knowing how to drive in the snow and avoiding those who don't is your ticket to getting around safely. That said....BRING ON THE SNOW I'M READY TO START SHREDDING :):)
