Hooks onto the top rail trim piece. No drilling which is the best part.

Do you have a link to the one you bought? I see a bunch of different ones.

How does it hook onto the top rail trim? Did you make something yourself or buy it?

Bought it from a guy on etsy. It is a 3D Tacoma specific print that just hooks onto the lip and holds well. Here is a stock photo:

Cool, thanks. I saw another 3D printed mount on Etsy, but this looks better since it has a flat front that could accept different holders.

This is what I have and it’s perfect. Holds well and doesn’t move. I added some 3M tape to make sure, but it was pretty solid before. Completely out of view when the phone isn’t there.

I have this same set up. It works well for most driving and simple dirt roads. It doesn't so so well when you start doing more technical trails or are on a bumpy forest road for some time. I like to keep the phone in landscape mode also, so it doesn't block the engine display.

Well, after looking at many options, I bought the $10 WizGear magnetic mount w/ adhesive back from Amazon. Then I built my own attachment base that clips onto the dash trim. I used playdoh to take a mold and do a cardboard mockup. Then cut profile out of a scrap PVC picket. I spray painted it silver since I didn’t have black. Works surprisingly well. Here are the process photos:

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Now patent the clip and start making more of them. Charge $12 for the piece... Buy a few more of the mounts and upcharge them 2$.

Too much work :) Plus there are a couple of guys selling similar clips (3D printed) on Etsy. One product only had a left-right motion and the other supposedly had a weak magnet (according to reviews). The third guy no longer makes them. So I built my own - it took me an hour or so and we'll see how long it lasts.
