So in conclusion, if you have poor decision making abilities, poor driving skills and just a shitty overall opinion of reality. Blame the inanimate object that you chose, that you control, instead of both the dummies behind the wheel that actually almost caused an accident.

    fantastic!

Just my opinion of the transmission. I've made a few dicey highway passes in my taco and wasn't disappointed by the engine and transmission performance. It seemed to downshift fine. The only reason I stick up for the thing is because these Aisin trannies may be relatively outdated/slow/clunky but they are bulletproof.... They are specifically tuned for maximum fuel economy and longevity, not performance. If that's a problem, then this isn't the truck for you.

This truck probably has the quirkiest and most sluggish auto in the midsize truck segment but I'd bet dollars to donuts it will last the longest.

Oh totally agree, I've owned 10 of them, but I've also experienced what OP is discussing as have others and its pretty unnerving in the wrong circumstance (merging on a highway, etc.) and not driver error related. As I mentioned I have yet to see it in my 19s but it was pretty common in the 16s and 17s hence why there were so many threads complaining about it and far less now.

‘17 here, lifted and on 34 MTs. Absolutely NO issue with the transmission, nor picking up speed. Pretty peppy little truck for what it is.

Unfortunately my 2018 does the same thing. I also have to pull out in front of fast moving traffic everyday going to work. I really do feel it is unsafe. Pedal all the way to the floor, waiting, waiting, waiting, shifting shifting (during the waiting it feels like the brakes are being applied) then BAM nasty jolt of acceleration. It is not fluid, it is not responsive, it is not predictable in any way.

Are you already moving when you floor it, or stopped at a light? Trying to figure out why its "shifting" if you are starting off from a stop. Is this a freeway merge?

If from a stop, maybe TCS is kicking in. Have you tried turning it off to experiment?

No issues from a stop (besides not having sufficient torque). I'ts not Traction control, that usually gives you a yellow light on the dash to let you know it kicked in. It has happened multiple times a day in different scenarios. Say moving 40mph, want to pass a car to merge quickly, smash pedal, waiting game. Just my experience. I know a lot of folks don't have this issue or just don't notice it. I feel I notice it more because I drive a little spirited at times and expect my truck to keep up with my foot. Just doesn't happen though. I think OV tune will fix me right up.

Try stabbing the gas pedal 3/4 of the way to the floor to pass.
The same thing happens to me when I press the pedal to the floor...It bogs then kicks in

'17 here, when I First bought the truck the Transmission would downshift at the slightest increase in grade, they flashed the Transmission
Which corrected it by about 95%. When trying to pass or make a Yellow light, it still takes a second to downshift but when it does, the truck
Takes off like horse with a firecracker up it's a$$. It's only a matter of timing the go pedal, I have no complaints about mine.

Some people complain that it downshifts too much, some people complain that it doesn’t down shift fast enough. Some know how to regulate the gas pedal (throttle).

Because just like the AT Tacos, the engine tune was trash. As odd as it sounds, the TSB tune and OVT actually improve MT shifting. That one is kind of hard to understand, but the engine tune has a huge effect on making butter smooth shifts.

On the MT side, we also have wonky clutch pedals, the ADM, and a couple odd gearing choices that necessitated the 2LM. The redeeming factor there is that it is all easily fixed / modded for the better.

OP, Try putting your traction control in limited slip mode (if the 2wds have it) and ect power mode, hold the brake and gas a little to load the torque converter, then when you want to go drop the brake and smoothly add more gas . Mine did the same thing till I started doing that on tricky intersections. Too much gas and you'll peel out till you straiten out.

A little over 2 years and I have never once encounter this Rev Hang with my truck. I drive spirited, normally and balls too the wall depending on my mood. Never have the revs hung between a shift.

I do find that I get better pick up and throttle response in lower rpms at mid pedal vs. to the floor. And when I do put it to the floor above 3000rpm it gets up and goes.
