Dammit, bidding war. Given some of the shenanigans I've seen on tacomaworld, if OP played his cards right he could probably end up getting someone to bring him a six pack and supply the spark plugs while OP stayed inside playing video games.

I think I paid like $40-$60 for a complete set of spark plugs and did the job myself. Not that hard to do. Just a little time consuming because you have to work around some parts that's all. Not worth paying someone else to do in my opinion

No. You just need spark plug socket and an extension and a few other basic tools

so people are flaming you for paying someone to do it.

    Nothing wrong with that.
Yes. We all know we can do it ourselves.

    $240is not a bad price.

I can do it myself and I also would pay the dealer $240 to do it.

It all depends if im lazy enough and my schedule.

Ok good....I guess I am bad about dropping stuff. Probably ought to drop the skid plate first so all the bits will hit the floor

You don't need it, but it makes life a lot easier and invokes much less profanity when you drop something in the myriad nooks and crannies that seem to exist on all newer vehicles.

Find a good mechanic or ask your buddies if they know one. Dealerships are there to make money and will take you for everything they can get away with. Never take a car to a dealership unless it is still covered by the warranty. I know. I worked for a Ford dealership and saw parts paid for thrown in the trash when they were not needed in the first place. I just retired in January and started working part time at a dealership. I quit 3 months later when I saw the crap they were pulling with customers. When I got out of high school I worked at a dealership back then. Nothing changed.

Besides, it’s all fun and games until you strip threads or drop something in the cylinder and now it’s on a rollback headed to the dealer to get the head pulled.

We’ve seen a lot of spark plug threads, not many turn to shit but when they do..

Everybody should do what they’re comfortable with, and not be bent over when they have to pay someone else to do it. There are some cases where it’s cheaper than DIY, in the end.

You're right easy to do this job. Take some time to view some videos first - become educated and save some money. A win, win!

the spark plugs were one of the first DIY's I did on my taco. I've done them plenty of other vehicles so I wasn't too worried.

it took me about 90 minutes, mostly taking my time and getting that darn plug on the back of the drivers side. After I found the perfect angle to attack it was pretty easy.

Exactly. The man asked if the job was worth $350.

He didnt ask how to do the job.

And when you tell people this sort of thing they say something like "they wouldn't do that!" Those are the people who go to dealerships for service.
