Do any of you have tricks for high blood pressure without actual prescriptions?

I don’t eat meat, don’t add salt to anything, 2ish hours of weights 5x a week, cardio for 30ish minutes with hr around 135-155 1x a week, drink a glass a grape fruit juice every day, and I think that’s about it. Oh my diet is roughly 350C/70F/200P. Dropped drinking from 5-6 beers a day to less than 10 total on the weekend (light beers mind you).

With all of that my blood pressure is still around 130’s/90’s. That’s measured with a wrist cuff and is pretty consistent.

Grandmother on mom’s side had high blood pressure. Lived to 90 something. Not sure about anyone else in the family.

I’d prefer to not have to have a dr prescription but not sure what else to try.

I have no scientific answers, only my experience. I have struggled with this and have tried to research it but I’ve come up empty handed.

Last year my BP was around 130-140/90-100.
High BP runs in my family (both sides). I believe my BP was largely stress and anxiety induced but at the same time it appeared to be diet induced.

I noticed when my carb intake went down (specifically refined carbs) my BP came back down to my normal 105-110/70-80.
I do notice if I accidentally eat something with refined carbs (ex: I ate chinese stir fry with no sauce BUT it was clear the shrimp was tossed in corn starch) my BP shoots up.

This could be from having an immune response to what I’m eating or it could be high BP.
I do not notice this if I eat a bowl of rice though. So its not all carbs.

The only thing I’ll toss out there is if you have noticed this after lowering alcohol consumption that may be a contributing factor.
Alcohol lowers BP only in moderation. In higher amounts it raises it. Moderation is defined as 1 beverage per day or less.
    Also the obvious, limit caffeine.

Why are your fat macros so low?

Idk if its a trick but taking l-arginine alpha ketoglutarate keeps my BP very low, although I don't have high BP to begin with. Bulk supplements sells it cheap on Amazon. You could also try some good fish oil supplements, make sure its over 3grams a day at least.

Outside of that idk what to tell you. If its genetic than I doubt much will work other than a script.

Hmm. Interesting. I’ll have to watch carbs and see what that does.

for drinking going from a lot of beer to not much made zero difference in blood pressure. Granted it’s only been a couple of weeks since I slowed down. But so far no changes at all.

Caffeine. I don’t think I can cut that one out!

Funny note. My last trip to the dr my blood pressure was high as usual. He kept trying it and maybe the 3rd time he lifted my arm to level just about, took it again, and it was perfect.

Another thing I just thought of. I’ve always had high blood pressure. Even when I didn’t track macros, didn’t go to the gym, skateboarded everyday, bike and raced downhill, races dirt bikes, none of those activity levels did anything either.

Maybe I do need meds. :rain:

Fat macros were that low back when I had a nutrition coach. So I just started there when I stopped using them. No real reason other than that.

I take fish oil supplements too. I can’t remember how much but it’s usually the serving size on the bottle plus one pill. Very scientific I know.

I might check out that supplement you posted too. Could be worth a shot.

If one is genetically prone to high BP, is it bad like someone that is fat and has a crappy diet? Or are they different at all. As in maybe genetic bp isn’t as bad.

I didn’t say quit caffeine lol just watch intake. Keep it minimal in the am. Just something to experiment with.

You may need to try some meds.

If it were me I would do 1 cup of coffee in the AM. Stop all alcohol consumption. Stop the fruit juice and stop the refined sugar. Re-evaluate in 30 days.

I’m willing to try anything to avoid meds though. Especially beta blockers because they make your workouts turn to crap. To me less gym performance is worse than giving up any food lol.

If you find out any good info on this please share. I’m curious about it.

High BP is the silent killer. It does serious damage to your vital organs and arteries. Diabetes and high blood pressure are probably the two most devastating chronic medical conditions to have (IMO).

Its definitely something you’ll want to prioritize getting resolved in some fashion.

Genetic I would say is worse because its out of your control. If its because you are fat, well you can lose weight. If its your diet well you can eat different. If its your genetics, hard to change that lol

I take a generic brand of a ratio of both 3 and 6. 6,000mg/day with DHA on top of it.

I feel a difference with it so it can’t really be bullshit. Its probably the only supplement I don’t care about brand.

Refined sugar I think I’m good. I’ll have to check ingredients though. I’m not one to eat sugary stuff anyway. Juice easy. I only started grapefruit juice because it may help lower bp. I’ll keep you updated though if I managed to do anything before actual medication.

Hey it was worth a shot. Ha. But true. I can’t do much. Diet is okay. Not too fat. So not a whole lot to change.

Would more cardio help? I’ve been planning on doing 15-20 every morning but I’m not an am person so that usually gets skipped.
