What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Aux fuse box enclosure in the bed of the truck. Blue Sea fuse block, switch panel, relays, USB charge ports, voltmeter, etc. Phone camera, pic uploaded from phone without any editing/cropping

 

I’ve found 4 gauge to work perfectly fine if it’s of good quality. No voltage fluctuations like stock. Easier to manage

I'm sure it would be fine. I have three unused spools of Temco EasyFlex OFC 2ga welding cable, so I kinda wanted to use all that and it flexes really nice.

 

Both of mine hover around 14.1-14.3.

My aux battery is normally .1 less than my main.

That's with stock alt... I think I'm going to do a Grand Vitara alt this winter.

 

I adjust my e-brake with the adjustment under the cab.

 

I do that too but I've about maxed it out doing it that way (can hardly reach the adjustment nut with my wrench). Either the cable is too stretched out or I need to adjust it via the drums which I'm not sure how to do

 

Unless your battery is very depleted, say from running a fridge over night while camping, you won't see voltage higher that 14.4 for very long. Voltage readings are an indicator of the rate at which the battery is accepting the charge from the system. After starting up and running for a while those voltage reading will reduce from 14.4+ down to 14.0 to 14.2, depending on the voltage drop in your system.

Is that part of a dual battery system?

 

Sorry if somebody else already asked, but how did you go about screwing those quickfists to the wheel well? Did you do self-tapping or did you take the fender lining out, drill a hole, and do a bolt/washer/nut?

 

Rivnuts work well for that application

 

Not yet... still in the planning stage. Also want to take another look into solar. Like the look of those Renogy Flexible 100w panels.

 

approx how much length in cable would you guesstimate you used when you did all that?

 

Did anyone make up and offer a group buy for "grounding kits"? Once of my other clubs had a guy that made and sold some some nice 5-wire kits.

I think there was. There was also a now banned member that was selling a “big three” wiring kit upgrade.

 

@Prayn4surf got it. I used rivnuts. So they are bolted to the wheel well and riveted. As are the Quickfists on the rail and actually the whole rack for the tent. Rivnuts are awesome.

 

Got my frame (rear only so far) POR15 applied, bed rust holes fiberglassed and hope to re-assemble soon. I still need to replace & replumb the BPV, those parts should arrive tomorrow.

 

are those some type of frame reinforcement plates with the big circles?

 

I use a nut and bolt and fender washer from the underside but a riv nut is def a cleaner solution.

 

Yes - I think they are Trail Gear - I have a swing out tire carrier and camper shell when all is together. I felt frame reinforcement was prudent.

I fastened mine to the inside of the bed with self-tapping screws, it's held just fine for 3 years now.
