I'd love to check out these waveforms, but you haven't posted them. I'd get them myself, but my truck lacks the necessary equipment. If they're so important to the conversation, why don't you post them?

Also, cable actuated throttle and MT FTMFW!:bananadance:

Wait, since you're talking about proof and evidence why don't you contribute some? You could pull information from tech manuals, schematics, functional diagrams, event traces (do you own your own Soltec Data Logger or is your oscilloscope capable or printing off an event trace?), and prove your point to us.

Are you really going to use this as the only reason for anyone to listen to you?

You are going to find out that you are going to get this with a lot of modern transmissions as they are all designed to squeeze every last MPG they can from that drop of gas. My 2018 Colorado Z71 did the same exact thing, plus a shudder. Both my 2015 and 2018 F150's would hesitate like this every time you needed the speed instantly.. Come to think of it the 2017 Silverado also had transmissions issues.

And by "issues" I mean they were working exactly as designed just now how I wanted them to act...

In fact, my 2020 Taco OR tranny is the best one I have had in the last decade and I love how smooth it shifts, it does not constantly shift between gears, it down shifts instantly when needed and punch the pedal it gets going. Is the 2019 that much different then the 2020's?

I drove a relative's new Mercedes today and thought the same of it's throttle response. Mushey is an understatement. Just the way it is nowadays.

I wonder if any who complain about the transmission even bother to read the owners manual - Hint- NOT!

But I bet they somehow learn and know all there is to know about their smart phone

*2: Selecting shift ranges using S mode restricts the upper limit of the possible
gear ranges, controls engine braking forces, and prevents unnecessary
    upshifting.

Use when high levels of response and feeling are desirable, such as
when driving in mountainous regions or when pulling a trailer.
Press the “ECT PWR” button to select power mode.
The “ECT PWR” indicator comes on.

Edit: Note that "D" really stands for "dead" or how else are you going to get good fuel mileage?

OP, you’re probably over this thread by now (we aren’t, obviously, because I’m going to learn about waveforms) but here’s another idea—see if a TW member nearby with OV Tune on a similar truck is willing to let you try your suicide merge after busy hours. Maybe you can film a few runs in both and share so we can see the difference, perhaps?

You said in another thread that you were thinking about moving up to a full size; consider that most full-sizes are within 1/2 second of the Tacoma on a 0-60 sprint, so you may get no improved acceleration when punching it on your sketchy spot.

Lastly, to echo others, maybe it’s just getting used to what your truck can do. I came from other vehicles that were either underpowered or had big engines but rudimentary traction control that couldn’t adequately protect me from myself when I floored it with the steering wheel turned. Going sideways is fun, but I’m pretty mellow and just wait for a safe opening these days...

That saves an ounce of gas. Multiply that ounce times the number of Tacoma’s produced and we meet the gov mandated fuel standards. Simple, really. Climate crisis averted, thank god. It was looking bleak back when all we had was 2nd gens.

Wait a minute, he may be on to something. I once hooked an o-scope to my nipples and the waveform was as one would expect. That all changed when I hooked a trim pot to my hammer and introduced 120 VAC scroatally. It was exhilarating anywhere from 13-64 VAC, but when standing in a saltwater bath, I was only able to complete the test with 9-21 VAC due to me going unconscious at higher voltages. The pedal commander just may be for me.

The experience with my 2017 exactly mirrors the resolutions described in the owners manual. The truck was much more responsive and fun to drive in the city with ECT enabled. No near death expriences.

Driving highway speeds really necessitated using S mode and locking out sixth gear. Sixth is pretty worthless.

It would appear from 2020 owner reports, that some of this has been improved. It’s about time.

I was on the o scope all night forming all the waves and it proved the original o scope guy wrong.

My 2019 performs like you described your 2020. It took a little while (a month at the most) for the transmission and I to get used to each other, but has been fine ever since.

Are these trucks incapable of u turns because of the tranny?

Well, yeah, along with left and right turns. I've even gone in reverse.

What in the hell has a U turn got to do with it?

All of my turns involve the hand brake... maybe that's their problem? :notsure:
